Want to help in the search for extraterrestrial life?
SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) searches for life in space, It recieves masses of data through the world's biggest radio telescope, but does not have the ability to process all this data so it uploads it to computers all over the world. This screensaver is a program which downloads a few hundred kilobytes of data and processes it while your screensaver is running and displays this data on screen (it is a pretty cool screensaver) or it can process in the background constantly. It takes large ammounts of time to process this data so high peformance computers are reccomended but every computer helps, internet connection is no problem either as downloading and uploading such a small ammount is basically un noticed.
So if you want to do something good with your idle computer time this is it.
download avaliable from here:

Thanks for reminding me about that one mate! Was running it as a member of the Planetbaldursgate group ages ago but somehow forgot about it. Back on again and hopefully will get much better results than with the PC I used to run back then...heh

I remember when i first tried to run this on my Pentium II 266.... I'm currently about 30% through a batch of processing and it has been going for 2 or so hours on this athlon XP 2800+.

Strange, I've got it on a basic 2200+ which I've got on the side for file storage and it's at 65% after 2.5 hours.
Then again if I remember correctly some scans take longer than others but I'm not entirely sure.
