Does anyone know of a listing of the different gems required for different things in this game? Just so you know which stones to sell and which to keep?

I know I need a diamond for a certain item, for example. But rogue stones? Or whatever...

It would seem logical if the expensive stones have uses.

Well, there is a special rogue stone in the game that can allow you to cast the Gemjump spell, allowing you to teleport places. One particular place springs to mind, as does a powerful item.

Good Luck!

you should usually just sell them for money. With the items upgrade mod, you can use them to upgrade your items into more powerful stuff.

When there are things that I may or may not need or want later (gems, scrolls, potions, some ammo), what I do is pick a specific merchant to sell to. That way I know exactly where it is later in the game. The Adventurer's Mart would certainly work, but I've always preferred merchants in the Docks or Bridge district. Depends on where my stronghold is. If yous is a... questionable... morality, sell to Roger the Fence or some other merchant you can pick pocket from.

Are some gems not needed for upgrading an item, perhaps the horn of valhalla (the one found in the bridge district if that's it's name)?

Yes, one requires a beljuril and the other a diamond. In addition to these, a sole rogue stone is needed to get into Shandalar's lair in the bridge district. Some mods may require gems, but these are the only ones I can remember in the unmodded game.

That's the rogue stone I was talking about! It allows you to cast the gemjump spell, which can teleport you to a place where you can get the scroll detailing the creation of the Boots of Stomping.

No, you've got them mixed up. The scroll you are talking about is for The Cloak of Scintillating Colors. (I spelled that wrong, I know )

The Boots of Stomping are quite different. They grant increased movement, and, once per day, can kill any bug type creature. (ie: Spiders, Umber Hulks, etc.)
