Falling on Floor Laughing A MOD request for the SixOfSpades

Hey Six, since you're Modding now, is there any way to fix the travel in BG city? It's irritating to travel from one part of the city to another and wind up on the wrong side of the wall. Put in a gate maybe?

"Modding" is not like a Thieving skill -- it's more like a weapon proficiency. Right now, I have achieved Specialization in Items, and Mastery in Spells and Kits. But as for Area Editing, I take a +4 THAC0 penalty for weapon nonproficiency. Better ask the people already working with BG1UB or BGTutu.

Well, actually, I was kinda thinkin' that since you are already "in the MOD clique" , you would ask around those guys...you know, SimDingo and those folks.

Heh, "In the Mod Clique" would have been a great name for a modding group. Alas, I'm already stuck as a gibberling.

If you've got specifics, I can pass them along to the folks at G3 who are working on a BG Fixpack. The way that the engine parses the worldmap is hardcoded, though, so it may be beyond their ability to fix.

It should be possible to alter the coordinates of arrival (when entering from different map areas), but frankly, I'm not sure it's worth the time. Sure, warping in on the wrong side of a wall is annoying, but it's easy to develop the habit of first going to a map area on the far north or far south of the city, and then traveling to the area you want.

I'm sure the problem would be a lot higher on modders' lists if it were more global--but as it only happens within BG city, nobody really seems to mind. Heck, consider BG2, where almost all the city maps have only one point of entrance: Approach the Bridge District from the south, and you'll still appear at the north end of it. Then again, walking speeds are noticeably faster in BG2, so that probably has something to do with it.

These are by design though--Bridge district has one entrance so you won't miss the start of the skinner murders, Graveyard so you won't miss Bodhi/Valen encounters at the entrance, Temple so you can't miss Gaal preaching in the streets, and Slums for Gaelan Bayle. The only area that unnecessarily forces an entrance point is Gov't district, and I suppose you could argue it's for the mini-encounter at night where the guards hassle you. The Docks can only be entered from one side and the Promenade has multiple entrance points.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Graveyard district have two entrance points?

It does, but the northern entrance isn't used by any of the world map travel links. It might be possible to end up there if you come from a random encounter area but it's fairly rare (and not something that could be changed regardless).

Jees, guys,,,, I didn't mean to cause a big stink! I just thought that BG city travel could be fixed with small effort. If it can't...it's no big deal, I've played the game so many times I know the drill!!! Thanx anyway!
