I like the little Gnome Illusionist; although I miss out on those other two schools (I have no other magic casters) I like the extra spell slots and that handy invisible spell.
;
;
;
a little spoiler on random items...
;
;
;
I like to get the random items that best advantage my current party, so I:
GO invisible
SAVE game in the new are where there are no bad boys
GO peak in the chest
DON'T like
TRY again

The challenge with the random item comes when the damn BOSS is carrying it! I've had to come up with creative ways to speed the kill up, so I don't have to reload a 1000 times.

Current party and why (besides all races):

Human Paladin - Tank/Spells/Best Sword & Shield
Dwarf Fighter - Tank/Grand Master/Throwing Axe
Halfling Cleric - Def Spells/Helm & Sash
Half-Elf Druid - Off Spells/Shape Change
Elf Fighter/Thief - Thief/Range/The Argent Shield
Gnome Illusionist - Extra Spells/19 Int/Go Invisible a lot

There are items that take care of their pitfalls:
Paladin - increase of STR (girdle)
Dwarf - increase of DEX (+1 DEX -1 CON)
Halfling - increase of WIS (+2 WIS -1 DEX)

So by the time you hit the HoW section, you should be set to take it on with a near dream team. Ta Ta.

Girdle? What do girdles help with - are you refering to the run of the mill or to the magical variety?

Since rolling for a Paladin is a PITA--trying to get something like:
18/91
18
18
10
14
18
or greater! But the above was my minimum requirement.

I finally got the roll, but have to keep pumping the Strength spell into the Paladin to get that 18/00 Str. Later you will get a girdle to stop wasting a slot on that spell and give your Paladin a 19 Str. Yippee!

Note that there is another way to bump up the Dwarfs' 17 Dex to 18--a pair of (random) gloves. With those gloves...you can make your non-good Dwarf a 20 Str Fighter [18/00 + (random) potion + (random) ring]. You can also take that leftover (random) Dex potion (wh/ kills a Str point) and use it on the Paladin (using the girdle, you won't have to worry about losing your Str--dropping it down to an 18/76). Now the Paladin can shoot Bows/Crossbows with a 19 Dex.
;
;
;
Warning: If you follow that last strategy, you will not get any Elven Chainmail--those random items will take away your only two chances.

And for those of you who got a lucky 18/00 roll on a Paladin...WOW!

Yah, well my bunch are all proverbially too 'human' (I knoww, I know, not 'human', but you get the drift). They're accepted as they were originally cast and their levelling is also subject to the random nature of life. Call me a purist if you have to.

Hey, but I must admit i admire your knowledge of the game, you definitely know it in and out. Do you know what to do with Lymond's dead cat, by any chance?

Question Mark

The dead cat:

The game programmers wanted to be smart *@#^!

I tried putting it in all slots and even seeing if I could swing it around in circles by its tail to throw as a weapon...to no avail. Bah!

The dead cat is just a "Critical Miss" for the random goodie bag. Too bad it doesn't have a "Critical Hit"--like some really nice bolts/arrows.

Actually the cat is useful. If you take it to Easthaven at the end of the game it jumps out of the pack and attacks the invincible squirrel. When the squirrel dies you get 200000 experience. This is for taking the frozen cat which is not dead, and thaws out in your back pack to the end of the game with you.

Question Mark

Because the squirrel is an immortal and invulnerable deity--the Lord of Squirrels.

Besides, it's too cute.

I just realized that Dace De'Briago is practicing the ancient and forbidden dark ritual of Thread Necromancy.
