I actually finished IWD before BG or BG2 (comparitively) as i found it more focused and accesible but not as well rounded as the BG series. Buy it

IWD is great, and cheap. I'd buy it and play it through. The graphics and theme are very moody - you almost feel cold playing it.

Only get IWD if you absoloutly love the fighting aspect of the BG series, because thats pretty much what IWD is all about. I was kinda dissapointed in IWD because it was pretty much just a hack and slash rpg and not a classic like BGII
