I must be an idiot, but I'm stuck at the beginning of the Crypt. I walked down a spiral flight of stairs and opened a door to a long, narrow room. The door at the other end doesn't open and that's as far as I can get. What am I doing wrong?

There is a switch in the shadows on the left wall of the room with the closed door.

There is a switch on the left wall after you come down the stairs.
