I remember someone posting that long ago. That was based on their misunderstanding of how the game worked; in some games, you can convince NPCs to join you. Just not here.

Grin! This game is very flexible, but not that flexible - pity. Think of all the possibilities!

And what about Harespia? I read somwhere, to get the orb of clarity, I can give her the serpent wand or simply kill her.. to my mind its the easier way.. but is tere any advantage to give her the serpent wand???

Yes. The paceful way grants you access to a chest with a random ankh. The chest always contains an ankh. You can open the chest repeatedly and get the ankh you need.
As far as Harepsia is considered:
1. You do not need the quest. Type in "orb of clarity" and give her the wand.
2. Even if Harepsia wants 300 gold, she takes nothing. In fact, you can come to her without any money.
3. You need not listen to her drivel. Answer "no" to her offer and then type in "orb of clarity".
4. The orb survives Reset Adventures. You can (mis)use it for shifting of events in all subsequent game runs:
a) Gain the orb. Reset adventures.
b) Now, you have the orb. Finish the Scabban quest. Finish the Talrik quest. Take the orb quest.
c) Now, completing the quest should take a while. You are supposed to do the Serpent Temple up to the point where you open the door to the naga lair. Instead of this, you can complete the quest immediately by means of your orb from the previous game run. You can take advantage from the higher guild level immediately.
d) Later on, you gain a new orb. And so on Let us note that Adibren Keepsake has the same property. It also survives Reset Adventures. Therefore, you can gain guild level 4 in the Mages Guild much sooner than you should do.

The same thing sort of happens to Scanthril and other NPC's, as you can just type in "job" to him and he'll get you to get his "associate", and ask again and you'll be asked to kill a stout( ).

The only problem about killing NPC's is the fact that some of them may give you special items if you get really deep into their conversations, or just skip it all like Scanthril. For example Kerielle, the wind-mill woman half-way to the Nymph Lake knew some guy called Amephan or something - not Anephas . She asks you to retreive his amulet from the crypt, and in return she gives you a special elixir for defeating Xydusa or Elyssia in the Serpent Temple, which apparently protects you from her.

I haven't found any use for the elixir since I had only done the quest this morning , and I did the Serpent Temple a few days ago.

The elixir puts Mother Xydusa to sleep, allowing you to get by her without having to kill her... yet. If you do that, you can get a special trait when you meet Elyssia.
