Addicks Stun Hapless Gunners

Charlton pulled off an astonishing 4-2 win at Highbury - their first since 1955 - to stop Arsenal climbing to second place in the Premiership on Sunday. The Addicks netted four times in just 18 minutes either side of the break to shock Arsene Wenger's superstars.

Some might say this serves him right for trying to sabotage French football, but personally I think he's actually on Australia's side. He wants them to beat France, you see.

Fergie - Reds are the major threat

Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to Liverpool, admitting that The Reds are the major threat to Manchester United's dominance in England.
Liverpool's 3-1 win extended their winning streak over their rivals to four games, a record not bettered since 1910, and prompted Ferguson to admit that Liverpool worked harder and deserved the three points on the day.

"Liverpool wanted it much more than Manchester United today," he said. "They're where we were four years ago and until we address that situation then we'll get results like today. On the day we got what we deserved and Liverpool were the better team.

"I thought their third was the killer because for the first time in the match they were starting the think about the game, but this third goal allowed them the cushion to sit back and wait for us again, and they're very good at that," he admitted.

Ferguson also admitted that he had not expected Sami Hyypia to be fit for Liverpool: "I was surprised that Sami Hyypia was fit after damaging his hamstring 11 days ago, and I thought that maybe we'd have the opportunity to get at them. That was one of the reasons for the system I chose, but it wouldn't have mattered what system I'd played."

However, Ferguson saved the greatest praise for his arch-rivals until last: "Liverpool will hunt the ball and play with hunger and I think that's a great foundation for success. I think anyone can now see that Liverpool will be the big threat to everyone.

"It's always quality that wins games of football."

Go the mighty Reds! Man U are going DOWN!! What a joke Barthez is!

Funny how life kicks you about - just when I have enjoyed the demise of Man U, and Arsenal are in cruise mode at 1-0 up over Charlton - whoomph, fair smack in the guts. How did we manage to lose 2-4?????????????

On a side note, I think I saw our learned and anagramatic Chip defender sitting disconsolately in the stands. He took me to that game back in May, so I know which part of the stand to look for him in. They panned to scenes of the crowd streaming out early, and unless I was mistaken, I spotted our Donut staring disconsolately down on the dismal performance with a pained expression (well I supose it might also have been some bad Fosters he had just drunk perhaps).

Anyway, shame on you Memmie for bringing this up .

Speaking of which, has anyone seen secret agent double-donut-seven? He seems to be incognito. Just like Arsenal's defence was on Sunday.

Barca lost 2-0 to Real Madrid on the weekend.

Barca are in the toughest group in the Champions League, Group B - with Italian champions Roma, Liverpool (go the Reds!!) and Galatasaray. The second toughest group would be D with Arsenal, Deportivo, Leverkusen and Juventus. Real have got a saloon passage in Group C with only Porto as a serious challenger.

Ajax Amsterdam? The oh-so powerfull team? NOT! They didn't even make it to the Champions League, and were kicked out of the UEFA Cup Tournament last thursday, when they lost to FC Kopenhagen...who?? FC KOPENHAGEN!! MUHAHAHA! Feijenoord, PSV and Roda JC are the only ones left in European soccer from Dutch side.. It's a shame, ain't it ?

Fergie threatens United shake-up

Sir Alex Ferguson has threatened wholesale changes at Old Trafford after accusing his stars of not working hard enough.
The reigning Premiership champions slipped to sixth in the table yesterday after being beaten 3-1 against Liverpool at Anfield - their third defeat in the league this season.

Ferguson has been criticised for the tactical changes he has made during his final season in the United hot-seat but so far, publicly at least, the 59-year-old has remained calm.

However, he struggled to contain his anger after his side were comprehensively outplayed at Anfield and hinted that he is ready to swing the axe if things do not improve shortly.

He said: "The aspect that worries me is Liverpool worked harder than us and there has been signs of that this season.

"They are where we were four years ago in terms of the work rate of the team and until we address that situation then we are going to get results like that."

Although he did not name the players concerned, Ferguson pointed an accusing finger at Wes Brown and Fabien Barthez, whose mistakes led to Liverpool's second and third goals at Anfield.

Brown pushed Michael Owen to give away a free-kick from which John Arne Riise scored, and the Liverpool pair were involved in the decisive goal when Barthez failed to catch a throw in from the Norwegian full-back to gift the England striker his second.
