When do you believe human life starts?

At birth?

At the sperms fertilisation of the egg?

Or somewhere in between?

If you believe in a soul:
Do you perhaps believe a human soul exists before birth, or that it comes into being sometime during development. If so, at what point? Conception? Birth or between? When the brain develops?

I'd be interested to hear opinions.

Not at all. It is a discussion on the nature of human existence.

When does life begin?

I've heard the Mormans belive in precreation. On another board a Mormon wrote about souls existing before creation.

Larry, is this so?

It's an eternal question, one not limited to current ethical dilemmas, so let's not confuse the issue.

This information that I am posting is from our official church website, and not my own words...

quote:

The eternal nature of God’s children

Life does not begin at birth, nor does it end at death.
You are a child of God with a divine nature and a divine destiny. You lived with Him as a spirit before you were born. God sent you to Earth to receive a body and gain the experiences you need to return to Him.

If you are to return to live with Him eternally, you must keep His commandments, accept Jesus Christ’s Atonement, and follow His example while you are on Earth.

Sooner or later your life on Earth will end, and you will die. But because Jesus Christ conquered death, your spirit and your body will be reunited, never to be separated again. Then, if you have done what you came to Earth to do, you can return to live with your Heavenly Father.

You didn’t suddenly spring into existence the moment you were born.

You were happy in Heavenly Father’s presence, but He knew that you needed more in order to progress. You did not have a physical body like you do now, and you needed a chance to gain experience on your own—away from His presence, but with the ability to communicate with Him and receive help. So He sent you to Earth, hoping that you would return to Him and receive everything He has to offer you.

Before you were born, you lived with your Heavenly Father as one of His beloved spirit children. You knew and loved Him, and He knew and loved you.

Although you have forgotten your life before you were born, your Heavenly Father has not. He knows you and loves you. He wants you to come to know and love Him, too.

Does that answer your question well enough from my perspective?
If not, I can dig for more.

An important side note from my previous post, in my own words...
The Church does not hold an official stand on when the Spirit enters the body.

Anybody from my church that claims to know the answer is assuming it on his/her own.

Life begins at conception.

How can a mother feel the baby kick if there is no life there? The fetus is a living creation that feels comfort and pain.

We have ultrasound pictures of our first child sucking his thumb in the womb.

Life absolutely, positively begins as soon as the sperm fertilizes the egg.
