Why do most people think species from another planet are always more technically advanced than humans ? If there even is something outthere, it might be nothing more than a bunch of bugs, or even less, microbes and stuff.

In that case i'm not interrested, we have plenty of that crap right here. If they ARE an intelligent lifeform, they better have some kick ass breweries where they live, otherwise i'm, again, not interrested.

Forget beer. They better have Thai food, steak, and Starbuck frappacinos.

Depends on your interpretation of 'advanced'. You might think it's like technologically advanced. I interpret 'advanced' as something beyond bacteria - evolutionally advanced. And why would that mean they should have found us? We're advanced by that definition - we haven't found them yet . Besides they didn't say they thought advanced life was actually there, but it may have the capacity to 'harbour advanced life'.

Well... if they find a planet with life but without intelligent life than we've got a colonization target... for humanity that might be more important short term (short being relative... say 500 years) than finding intelligent life.

Such a discovery could lead to changes in research directions here on earth... shifting focus into finding out as much as possible about that world and creating supporting technologies to enable the creation of a colonization ship.
