I'm starting IWD with HOW installed.
I'm still debating on party composition. How are bards? I've never used them as having some queer playing a harp in the heat of battle don't seem too helpful. I think I'm leaning towards. 1) Paladin 2) Fighter/Thief 3) Fighter 4) Ranger/Cleric 5) Mage Should I take a bard for number 6 or perhaps a cleric/mage multi or another fighter? Which would be the strongest combo? The war song of the Seth(sp?) sounds great but the cleric/mage could cover extra healing and be more versitile?? |

I'm kinda with you on the bard thing, but everyone keeps saying the new improved bard is good. I'd definitly want another cleric, maybe dueling a fighter to one after getting some proficiencies in hammers or something

I myself don't have HOW installed but I still find my Bard a great asset. First he automatically gets pick pockets so you don't have to waste any points on you thief. Second the lore ability is great, you don't have to waste any money or spell slots on identifing. And lastly it's always nice to have a back-up mage.

Bards are totally broken and powerfull in IWD... the war chant ot Seth is way cooler than a cleric could be cuz it works during battle to regenerat 2 hp per round for everyone... and then after battle, you can sit and wait.. saving cleric spells for critical hits and tough battles... the bard's 4th song is essentially a continuous Hold person spell that hits every round and holds creatures for a turn. i once held 6 or 7 yaun-ti in dragon's eye as they poured out at me (HOW has smarter monster AI).. the fear song is great too, it removes fear conditions... so there's 3 things a cleric can do with the properly memorized number of spells, but a bard can just do. Plus, bards get all mage spells up to level 7. i just got Tenser's transformation for my 14th level bard, she doubles as a fighter (spear or crossbow) for big fights

I also like the Bard. Weapon choices are great. And when push comes to shove, I can fire off an Acid Arrow or Dispel Magic. I don't have to hide like the other Mage in the party.
Invisibility and Bard song is a lot of fun. |
