Mage, however it would be a close fight. in terms of summoning spells they are just about equal in my opinion, as for defencive and agressive spells the mage wins. some spells such as dragons breath are no match for any cleric domain spells.
ive never been a cleric myself but i have never been beaten by one, whereas i have been beaten by mages many times my 2 cents

I also think mage. The cleric can't dispel -or use illusions I think, and if we are talking ToB, the mage could use firebreath among with timestop etc.
On the topic of cleric, I want to say how fun it was to play a Cleric of Talos. You could have the cleric walk right into a mob with storm shield and let the sorcerer/mage cast fireballs, lightning or whatever at him, he was completely immune to everything, the monsters weren't. It was also a sight to see him walk into an undead area in his sanctuary and turn paladin. You could have armies of undead this way, and just walk right pass them without need to fight which was very nice.

I'm going to throw a spanner in the works and say the Cleric/Mage multiclass would win

now the real question is sorc vs cleric/mage multi...both same experience point level, say about 8 million or so...who would win??? i think sorceror...but a chain contingency implosion is hard to beat...

I say Mage. With the PI cheese and he can buff up like hell. Now if he casts/reads TS from a scroll than he can use MMM in TS and he will hit everytime.(Due to auto hit) |

mage beats sorceror anytime, aswell [/QUOTE]urm, no...sorcs beat mages every time...depending on spell selection... a knowledgable soa/tob player, who understands and really knows spell selection, (hint, hint...read xyx's spell guide and my cheese guide ) can beat mages almost every time...its the sheer number of GOOD spells a sorc can cast that overwhelms a mage... except maybe edwin... the specialist bonus spells and his amulet may prove decisive...he can cast a lot of spells at higher levels...a lot of spells.... it would actually be an interesting 3 way duel... cleric mage vs edwin vs sorceror
