Any idea where I can find a faint power essence? I thought I had one for a certain item I would like to make, but the spell didn't work.
Cheers
DS

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT. Wrong. Thanks for playing. LOL

Actually, the hierarchy is faint -> weak -> glowing -> radiant

So you can make a faint essence simply by using the mortar and pestle on a weak essence while it is in your inventory. It does NOT have to be put into the alchemist's bench.

Would it work if it is faint power and say, weak fire as well? Becasue I really can't get this recipe to work.

Would what work? You can only distill a lesser pwer essence one at a time.

If you're asking if you can substitute a different power essence in a recipe, the answer is NO. The recipes are VERY specific. However they are often misquoted in the tomes and some of them don't work at all.

What item are you trying to craft and what recipe are you using?

SPOILERS

I'm trying to craft teh whatever it is to summon Mephasm. And the only faint power essecne I can find is an umber hulk mandible, which is also a weak fire essence as well at teh same time.
I would also like to point out that I normally never make things, I prefer to get what I can find, so I have no idea how any of this works.

I think the problem is that you have to distill the essence from the umber hulk mandible BEFORE you can craft with it. Using the mandible in it's raw form won't work.

Try this: Give the mandible to the character with the highest craft alchemy skill (probably Elanee) along with a mortal and pestle. Select the mortar and pestle and *use it* on the mandible while it's in her inventory. Select, right click ... that should *distill* the actual essences from the UH mandible. NOW you can put the distilled essence(s) along with the rest of the ingredients into the magicians workbench and cast the appropriate spell on it.

Here are the appropriate recipes:

Gold Filigree Charm: Used for summoning Mephasm in Crossroad Keep
Requires: Caster Level 1, Mephasm Quest, Wondrous Item Feat
Ingredients: Faint Power Essence + Glowing Fire Essence + Star Sapphire
+ Gold Necklace
Spell: Darkness

Infernal Focus 1: Used for bargaining with Mephasm in Crossroad Keep
Requires: Caster Level 1, Mephasm Quest, Wondrous Item Feat
Ingredients: Glowing Power Essence + Ruby + Darksteel Ingot
Spell: Darkness

Infernal Focus 2: Used for bargaining with Mephasm in Crossroad Keep
Requires: Caster Level 1, Mephasm Quest, Wondrous Item Feat
Ingredients: Glowing Fire Essence + Sapphire + Mithral Ingot
Spell: Darkness

Infernal Focus 3: Used for bargaining with Mephasm in Crossroad Keep
Requires: Caster Level 1, Mephasm Quest, Wondrous Item Feat
Ingredients: 1 Faint Power Essence + Faint Fire Essence + Blue Diamond
+ Iron Ingot
Spell: Darkness
