I know that you did start out with some armor that you could use - I just wondered why they put in that other armor at the beginning. I took a much closer look at it after the first time I died! lol!!

Reading some threads on the DreamCatcher board leads me to believe that if you keep the original armor and weapons, the ones without penalties, you're actually a fiercer fighting machine. I may have to try that out...
It could have been placed there as a tease, or to give you the idea in the demo of what could be to come. And I just noticed that you and I have the same post count, Wyv... until this post

Bungleau - you said your mage was turning into a fighter - You aren't noticing significant differences between the classes in the demo or the nature of the demo makes you stress fighting skills over magic??
Haven't had time to try a different character. Has anyone created a character from "scratch"?? I was terribly boring and just took the human character offered. |

The demo is apparently a bit overly balanced and enhanced, making it friendlier than real game play will be. And in thinking about it... the initial supply of magic ingredients is quite astonishing
When the game is fully released, they have said they are evening the classes out, creating some that specialize in ranged weapons, for example. Some others have posted that the "class bonus" should perhaps appear as a reduced cost to learn. Makes sense... it should be harder for a mage to master medium swordwork than a fighter, and harder for a fighter to master magical spells. Or easier, if you switch the positions. I think I will try a pure fighter character, leaving him to un-penalized weapons and armor, and see what happens. BTW, others have reported that wandering around the wilderness, they've found a few other things (in addition to the bazillions of beasties). I may do that, too... I did create mine from scratch, BTW. I always find character creation to be more of the fun part of the game. I haven't seen any of the class or heraldic bonuses kick in, though... BTW, apparently unarmed combat is a real blast. The ninjutsu skill really pays off in the demo. It won't pay as quickly in the real game, but I may try it to see.

Tried using the non-penalty items tonight. It makes quite a difference... far easier to hit.
Also wandered around the wilderness a bit. Quite a few exciting creatures Wolves, giant spiders, thieves, scorpions... stuff you just don't find in the sewers Studley Dinsmore was up to level 5 before he even got into the sewer area. Somehow, with my first character, he got medium armor. I've tried all the stats, but I can't get Studley up to it. So he's still using the wimpy stuff. If I figure out what triggers the skill, I'll pass it along. That's enough for tonight, though. Gotta get to bed

um the penalty is the amount below the strength requirement you have
so it says str 20 and u have str 18 you get a penalty. the medium armour skill helps this also if you want to make a new character to explore the forest, you just put 2 levels in jujitsu and ull kill wolves right away the only dangerous thing is going to be the scorpions. the forest is large but there almost nothing in it however people have gotten over the mountains by letting monsters hit them up the hill and backflipping. there are different items and monsters on the other side of the mountain but no other areas other than more forest. aparently at least 1 more npc also. havent gotten there myself but im going to try it out [ 03-29-2005, 02:03 AM: Message edited by: the mighty stamar ] |

Cool! I may have to try upgrading my armor tonight
I went through a lot of shields last night... a lot Combat can be almost one-on-one in this game... unless you get swarmed I did find one treasure chest in the forest that I opened from the other side of a wall I was standing in front of a wall, and the screen read "Treasure Chest". So I hit shift, and sure enough, it went to the disarm dialogue. Only thing I couldn't do was to pick up the treasure from the other side of the wall.

LOL!!! that's funny about the chest on the other side of the wall.
I had one place in the maze house where I had closed the doors and some monsters gathered outside - you could see just bits of them coming through the door (sound familiar??. Couldn't kill them through the door though - ah well! I was most careful not to don that better armor at the beginning of the game once I spotted the pentalty - made a big difference. I was able to use it later in the game but I still wonder why it was included. They've bent over backwards to give your demo character all this good stuff to help them survive the masses of monsters that are going to attack. So why hand out something that it actually going to slow your character down. Would be far easier to give out the better armor later in the game. No big deal, just made me feel like the demo/press build was slapped together rather than carefully constructed. |

I remember the days of hacking through walls, Wyv! Ah... the glories of MM6 and MM7...
I think they might have added the better armor so that you could see how realistic the game is. Then again, it might just be poor planning The best demo that never was is Emerald Island, MM7. That would have been a perfect way to get people hooked and make them want to buy the game. Quests, battles, advancement, and a dragon... what more could you want? Oh, and Mighty Stamar... since you've got an account over at DreamCatcher, and I'm not interested in setting one up ATM, could you post on there about opening the chest on the other side of the wall? I didn't see anything about it over there, and I'm sure they'd like to correct it. After all, it's one short step from there to opening the chest on the other side of the gate. Grazie. I suspect the demo will have another week or so of my interest, and by then, I'm going to be itching for the game. On the plus side, I'll have combat down to a science by then...
