I have a wireless connection that links my computer upstairs with the cable modem downstairs, and whenever I try to host a game the receiving end can never join. Can someone tell me why this is?

Err yes we're all psychics. No, seriously, you have to give more info about your setup and what you've tried. You don't have any problems using the cable modem downstairs to browse the web or join IP games only to host them?

Sorry, I really don't know that much about computers, just enough to keep me busy. I have no problems with the computer downstairs, it's the one up here that has the IP problems. And what specific info do you need?

Go into your router and click on Advanced/Port Forwarding and enter the port required for the game to 'talk' to the outside--open that port to allow this.

Neverwinter Nights Default is : 5121
Gamespy is a bunch.. 27900's..

Go to google and enter "your router name" in quotes then +hosting +port
i.e. "Linksys" +router +gaming +port +gamespy" is what I used to find out which ports I needed to open.
Its in the router, not on your comp. The manual for the router should give you details on how to alter the configuration. Possibly telnet, maybe HTTP (telnet is a text based program that allows remote access to a comp, its common for this. HTTP is what websites use, modern routers put out a website you can use to configure your router) maybe a specific program you have to install.

What you need to do is tell the router that information on port XXXX is bound for a specific computer. Otherwise it just doesent know where to send it, so it probably hits the first computer in its list.

The port for IWD2 will be in the readme. Since I dont yet have it I cant say what it is.

I'm so confused. The only manual I got with the router is this 6-page instruction booklet on how to set it up. I don't think it includes anything about configuration and ports. What I'm using is a Linksys WUSB11 v. 2.6

in your browser, type '192.168.1.1' and enter ONLY the password, and if you haven't changed it, it's 'admin'. then you will be in the routers menu.

click on Port Forwarding, and enter the port needed.
