You know, I was just thinking. Maybe a language forum would be pretty cool. If people helped each other, then we could all become a little bilingual. The beauty of it is that as people fill in their "translations", we would be building up a national database that could be reviewed by new members. What do you think everyone?

"Jobbing" LOL, I ran some of the stuff back through the translator, and certainly didn'y end up where I started. looks like we have some time to wait for the Star Trek style universal translators, oh well as the Romans would have said, o me miserum.

I like the idea Tobbin, but how would we know if someone had made a typo, or had used the wrong word eg.
This message is impotent. (is there an r missing or not? ------------------ |

Well, what I was meaning by that was a place that two people could go and translate back and forth to each other. Say, I am English and want to learn Danish, so I post on the board English to Danish. Then if someone who is Danish replies, they could help me with the correct syntax. As for typos, well, we always have those, but after awhile, you can learn where you make your mistakes and correct them. I don't believe that would hurt us too much. It would be very helpful if there were people that could speak both languages (true bilinguals and not computer wannabe bilinguals - LOL) as that would help accuracy 100%.

Maybe we should start a thread to see what support there is here for that, we have French/Swedish/Danish native speakers here so thats a start + some from S.E. Asia (not sure if the char sets would work though). If you propose it I'll second it.

Sir_Tainly, you took 6 years of French? Did I get that correct. Wow, I took 1 year of Spanish and French in highschool, but I barely remember any Spanish. I don't know French at all. Well, except oui or bonjour maybe. LOL
Ok, I think I misread that. Did you say that you haven't spoken French in 6 years? ------------------ Death Waits 4 U ALL [This message has been edited by Tobbin (edited 03-02-2001).] |

Sounds like a good idea Sir_Tainly. What about you Wolfgir? Would you join in on a Swedish/English thread? I promise not to laugh if you don't.

you got it in the end, yep 6 years since I did French, I actually studied for 5 years, so either way i guess its about the same. I also took 3 years of German and 3 of Latin. The Latin was forced on me, but I was allowed to turn down ancient Greek thank god.
