Light Bulb Morrowind: What Mods Do You Recommend?

Yeah, I know it has been around for some time, but when I first attempted to play 6 years ago I didn't "get" Morrowind. My RPG experience was greatly shaped by first tabletop pencil and paper D&D and then PC games such as Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.

Basically I gave up the game when I almost finished the Fighter's Guild Quests. Of course I went here, there, and everywhere on my journey with really no rhryme or reason. I didn't even get a tenth into the main story line.

Now I want to reinstall and try again (and my rig is so much more up to the task). I have heard there are great community texture packs and mods that make the game play more enjoyable. One thing I didn't like about the original look was the depressing, drab color scheme. So I'd appreciate hearing from you recommendations for...

1. Texture packs for improved graphics, terrain, etc.

2. Merchants that actually have enough gold to buy high end items and replenish their gold stocks in a reasonable time frame.

3. Anything else you can think of.

Thanks!

Me personally I have:

100 Projectile store chance - if you use a non-enchanted projectile like arrows or bolts etc. and it hits the enemy you automatically find it in the loot.

Area Effect Arrows (official mod) - gives an enchanted arrow shop in Vivec city.

Better Bodies mod - which you guessed it, gives you better bodies, including nudes if you are so inclined. I myself was not.

Bittercoast sounds (official mod) - adds swamp sounds to the bitter coast area.

wilderness sounds - adds a general plethora of outdoors sounds to the game and enhances rain and other sounds.

glow away - gets rid of that annoying celophane aura around enchanted gear.

and the richscamp mod - gives the scamp in Caldera like 100 million or so coins for trading. And modifies him so he buys ANYTHING. All other traders maintain their usual trade levels.

I have a few others but I'm not sure what they do anymore.

Best advice I can give you is to see what's out there, I'm not even sure what's available anymore. Or which sites are still in operation and distributing mods for morrowind.

Firestormalpha, I really appreciate the reply. Did you use any visual texture packs that improved the look of landscape? I am not looking for a complete overhaul (such as the one I found that literally puts green trees and other flora on the volcano hillsides). I just want something that makes Morrowind look a little more vibrant. It can be pretty drab.

Thanks.

I haven't encountered anything like that, at least not that I recall. Not that it would eliminate the chances that there is something like that out there. I may take a look around and see what's available myself. I've been wanting to get back into the game myseif after I beat it a couple years ago, and some new mods may improve the experience.

Galsiah's Character Development is a must. It replaces the very clunky leveling system in Morrowind with something that feels much more natural, and makes it harder to unintentionally make gimped characters by not gaming the system and ramping up those bloody multipliers.

Here's a few I found on planetelderscrolls.com. I don't have these myself, so I can't comment on their effectiveness, but some of the screenshots look promising. The site hosts their files on fileplanet. Here are the links.

Black Swan Gauntlet -- Great links. Thanks!

Neo the Warrior Cat -- Could you please explain further how Galsiah's Character Development works? I have to confess that I never did figure out the leveling system of Morrowind, especially the whole multiplier thing. Thanks.

It guts the leveling system completely.

You will never see another "Level Up" screen in the game, however, the game does still keep track of Level as it is needed to make the leveled lists of monsters function correctly.

Instead, attributes will increase as you work on skills related to that attribute. "Level" will rise after an arbitrary amount of attribute gains.

Major skills play a great role in your stats. Minor skills play a lesser role. Misc Skills play the least role, but they still play a part. It will take longer, certainly, to build a 'god' character that does anything.

hmmm, yeah I recall the leveling being a little odd. I managed to complete most of the guild quests etc. and came out not even having started the main storyline quests with a lv 45 can do anything he wants and not even a daedric lord could stop him character. And that was WITHOUT trying to maximize the leveling system.
