Exclamation It's a milestone for me!!

Actually, it's a kidney stone; but it is my first!

I went to the Hospital tonight 'cause I was/am in quite severe pain. After a quick scan with some really cold machine, the doc said it was a small stone!

I even got this cool thing to pee in and some filters to run the pee through!!

I thought I was keeping up with the liquids, but I guess not.

some things that contribute to kidney stones are: stress, sodas, teas, etc.

At least that's what I've heard. Clear liquids are your friends. And ummm... have fun passing that. Based on what I've seen that's one of those things that you don't wish on anyone.

Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy myself (well, actually)...

Always drink some cranberry juice, at least once a week, clears your kidneys right up, good luck with that though.

Ouch!

A few good shots of stout Kentucky Bourbon will usually help you with both the pain and the passing.

Tequila, Gin, and Vodka are considered to be the three clears, and everybody says you should drink clears. Gin and cranberry juice once on Saturday helps keep the cold machine away!

I feel for you man!

I've heard passing a stone is the closest men will get to the pain of childbirth. Never done it myself, but I'd guess it's worse than that because women who have one child will voluntarily do it again, but NOBODY wants a second stone

I do drink a lot of tea and I have been thinking of going more toward the decaf/herbal stuff. Not much stress lately, since the work thing and not soda at all.

We are the kings of cranberry here in Canada, so that's easy to find. (Ever try the white kind)?

Felix...
I'll save it for a last resort.

The doc thinks it's very small and should be easy to pass. If it was bigger I would be vomiting etc.

You're welcome to keep it... and pass it. I haven't passed that milestone yet (no puns intended), and plan to avoid for as long as possible...

Apparently, there are a number of possible reasons for getting kidney stones, and tests they can do to figure out which one is responsible. Until then, you get the laundry list of "avoid anything that might possibly be a cause".

Good luck, amigo...

I hope its not because of your uric acid level, high levels of which lead to gout. Trust me you dont want gout. If you are lucky it breaks up before coming out whole. Still a wee bit uncomfortable (I know, bad pun). Good luck and hang in there

The doc at the hospital said I problaby was not getting enough water at some point. I think that's where you're right LoA. The salt crystals form into a stone, due to the higher concentration.

It's my own stupid fault. I know I should stay hydrated. At least it teaches me a lesson.

On another note:
I seems like I've become allergic to ibuprofen, or something in the tablet. They gave 2 at the hospital last night and the doc said to take them 4-5 times a day.

About 1.5 hours later, I felt a lump in my throat and fleminess. I was also weezing, like I had astma. The same thing happened last week, when I had a headache and backache last week and took some here at home. I still feel the lump now. I mentioned it to the doc as well, but it was sort of passing, so he didn't do, or say anything about it.

I'll try to get to an allergy specialist asap. I think you usually have to be referred though.

It's times like this when I really appreciate our medical system. I wonder what it would have cost me yesterday otherwise.

Variol, I have lived with known allergies for over 35 years. One of which is Aspirin. To consume 1-2 tablets once, no issue. Consuming 1-2 tablets on a regular basis creates swelling of the tonsils: That alone creates two more sub-issues; 1. Phlegm buildup. 2. Wheezing, as if asthmatic. If you are experiencing these, then try "Tylenol", stay away from "Aleve" and "Advil" both of which contain Ibuprofen until you can get an allergy test.

Good luck to you.
