I was reading on the WotC website the other day in their community forums about this very thing...and I cannot remember the books they referenced but I remember being very upset at what I was reading...mostly because the truth is at this time there is no good source that is explaining the details as richly as we desire. We all know how amazingly detailed the Avatar Trilogy was which set up what we had up to the point of this Spell Plague. There are a few books that somebody referenced on that forum, but I cannot recall them all now.

Edit: Ah...here we go.

Quote:
The Haunted Lands Trilogy, Plague of Spells, and Empyrian Odyssey trilogy all depict the Spellplague in some shape or fashion, be it brief mention or larger role...

...Also, Steven Schend's Blackstaff Tower also briefly details some of the Spellplague's impact upon the City of Splendors.

...-All of the information you are looking for, concerning the "new" Forgotten Realms can be found in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide.
