K, yet chapter in "bob crashed and won't tell me why".

I have a dvd drive on my computer, and that's usually where I play my dvd's from, but since my mystery crash a couple weeks ago I haven't been able to play any dvds. I had to do a full system recovery and have tried completely removing and then reinstalling my dvd program that came with my computer several times. each time I get it installed and try to play something a messsage comes up tell me to lower my resolution and (I think) colour level, so I do, but then it just gives me a different error message and punks out all over again! HELP PLEASE!!!

Try reinstalling/updating your video drivers.

I don't recall what the final verdict was from your last crash. Did you re-install OS?
Did you just do a restore?
If you did a OS re-install, like Luvian says, get the new drivers. If you didn't, then you might just have a registry issue where the PC is not recognizing the drive, and you have severe issues. Go to 'device manager', then look at the DVD/CD-ROM drives. Is there a 'splat'? If so, fix it. If not, remove the DVD player software, the driver and then re-boot the system and re-install the driver *First*, then the DVD program. Then update as needed.
If that doesn't work, you may yet be forced to completely swipe your HDD, and re-install. This sounds horrible, but depending on the severity of the last crash, may be your only option.

hey this happened to me too after my big crash, what I wound up doing was taking out all the roms I had, and then installed the dvd rom first, because I had 2 on there, and the one that should have been the master was reading as a slave, and vice versa, so if you have any more drives on there, try un plugging them and reinstalling them one at a time....
