Yeeeeeowch! I've done things like that before... You know better, but every so often, one brain synapse forgets to fire...

FWIW, in our house we've lost two (count 'em, two) pizza cooking stones for that very reason. It's amazing how hot they can get.... and stay...

Anybody know how to deal with wasps?

I've got a mudwasp nest the size of a wheelbarrow beside the wood shed, and they are now making their way into the house. I got stung yesterday, so it's all out war this afternoon.

I was thinking about the big stick method, but the nest is too big. Any ideas?

Cover yourseld as much as possible and get a hose on them. IIRC they have trouble flying if their wings are soaked. (I could be thinking of other instects, however. So wait for confirmation before trying my idea.) There's also my pyro idea . stop up the entrance to the hive somehow and set it on fire. But that seems illogical considering the proximity to your wood shed.

I thought about the pyro idea too, but that would probably burn down the wood shed, as well as about 100 acres of forest. I think I'll pass on that one.

Maybe I'll just call an exterminator. That's probably the easiest method.

lots and lots of wasp spray preferably in a gallon or more hand pump sprayer, than wait until evning when they are setteling down, and spray the heck out of the nest, then repeat for a few days

Animal...EEEF! If the nest is that big, I'd call the exterminator! Smaller ones you can spray with insecticide but that's a pretty big nest you describe!
