They are an enjoyable time. The one I went to years ago was in Kansas. It was a perfect October day and the thing that stood out for me was the live music put on by various groups. There must have been 3 or 4 groups of no more than 4 in each playing all kinds of Celtic music on instruments that reflected the period. By the way, make sure you bring plenty of cash because nothing is cheap in those festivals.

One great thing about a Renn fest: it lets you truly realize how ungaingly a joust or a melee is/was. If you haven't seen such things done real-life before, it will quicly clue you in on the ignorance of movies.

Ren fests are a blast, I thouroghly enjoy them. They do have a thing against you bringing live bladed in; however if you have them all peace knotted you can sometimes get by. Very true observation TL, heh you should try doioong it behind all the armor, it looks difficult but easy enough to the observer but wait till you have that extra 1 to 300 lb's of metal, leather and padding on you, its a workout Here's the kingdom I am in in the SCA http://www.trimaris.org/

Never been to a Renn Fest (a commercial type), but I've been to Pennsic a couple times. It's an SCA sponsored Event, a yearly held war between the East and Middle Kingdoms. Quite an experience.

I would consider Pennsic a paramount example of a Renn fest.

Man TL a Lawyer with a sword, what next Unfortunately the Maryland Rennfest is weaponless unless you are staff, the owners of the land do not allow swords to be worn, even if they are peace banded *sigh* so much for authenticity in the Garb arena but it is still a fun place.

My fiance and I go to the Michigan Ren Fest every year! It's a blast. Of course, we dress up and all (yeah, we're nerds)...

Yea... quite a party. The end of August is pretty busy, what with Pensic and a week later the Coon Dog Nationals at Kenton OH. I get to change from my English squire persona to my Redneck persona. Both are a fun change from my boring Engineer persona. lol

As for Renfests in NY, I don't know, But I truely love the one we have here in MD. Im working on a comlete set of Garb and need to purchase a pair of "bucket" boots and a Hat yet to complete my first outfit. Dang boots are gonna costme almost a grand
