Ok, before the speculation starts flying (which it already appears to be doing), let me make a few things clear about what I meant:

A) I was in no way referring to the serious discussion threads, which I am pleased are being conducted as well as they are...keep up the great work there.

B) I'm not calling for *forced nicety*...that makes me want to choke and puke as well. I *am* calling for a general atmosphere of respect, though, which a few of our members seem to be lacking in. Not many, thank goodness, but a few.

What IS irritating me, and why I made this post to begin with, is that there are a few members who have decided to take on a pseudo-moderator stance and lecture others about petty *infractions*, some of which is ridiculous. It is high-handed, officious, and downright rude. Like "Excuse me, but who died and made you Mod?"

Now, I know that the IW of 2002 is not the IW of 2001. Maybe that's for the best. It would be terrible if everything stagnated. Forums need to be dynamic and move with the times...but that does not call for a general tossing down of mutual respect for others.

And, on the other side of the coin, as Nachtrafe so well pointed out, yes, people are WAAAY too whiny and oversensitive, especially lately. One of my favorite mottos is, "Don't run with the big dogs if you're going to piddle like a puppy." That is to say, if you find yourself in a thread that's offending you,

A) take your mouse,
B) point to your "Back" button
C) and CLICK it!

because THAT'S what it's there for!

You certainly don't have to be in nodding agreement with everyone here. But you do have to show them the same level of respect that you expect them to show you as a public forum participant. And if that means shutting your piehole instead of saying something whiny, undercutting, or demeaning, then by all means, keep your peace. Believe me, we have "something for everyone" here, and not all threads are for everyone. Be constructive, not destructive.

Ok, hope this clears things up.

-Saz

Very good Saz, and people, PEACE! Relax.... etc..

And as for the pseudo-mod stance people were taking, perhaps they take it because they feel the mods are not doing their job? Is this true? No offence to the current mods, just idle speculation about the motivation of wannabe-mods.

Everybody on here knows that the Moderators of Gen. Con. do their "jobs" with great skill and are fast on action. Heck, I was policing the RPG forum so tightly and strictly that I was told to loosen up and let a few things slip! Can you believe that? Anyway...I have a theory or two about the mini-mod factor.

1. It institutes a reason to post.
2. It gives the appearance of being supportive to the Administration.
3. Spam in disguise.
4. Wants to have authority.
5. Likes telling people where to go and what to do.
6. The "pack of dogs" factor. (Ever see one little dog, who is afraid of everything...but when that dog joins the neighborhood dogs and they team up in a pack, even domestic, cowardly dogs get extremely aggresive.)

NO, these tend to be young folk who seem to feel they need to 'lord it over' their peers.. which I believe is all well and good, but as Ziroc pointed out at one time, they are not sanctioned to do so by him and he is the webmaster. So no 'moderator' title, no acting as if you are one. Simple, really.

FWIW, I have not hear that complaint here at IW. Z chose well and on GD, Sazerac, Memnoch and Ertai do their jobs beyond adequately, thank you very much. They cover alot of threads and do it well!

Hi, Moni!

Yes, I finished Wiz 8 over the holidays while the forum was down. I check there pretty often, but it seems everything is running well. I've started a new game (finally!) so I'll probably be a bit more vocal there forthcoming.

Cheers,

And whose fault is it that the board isn't as active as it used to be? Instead of complaining about it, shouldn't we try to make it just as active as it was? Sitting back and complaining doesn't get anything done you know. Trust me I know. I'm going to stop here before I give myself a headache, and I meant no offense. Okay Neb?

Hiya,

Hmm, someone mentioned that new members tend to act up a bit, but to be honest, I've seen this more with people who have been around for a while. This is both on and off the forum though, the way I've seen some people act is pretty strange, though I know we all have our moments at times.
