There's a fairly good possibility that my wife and I will be relocating to the Greensboro, North Carolina area from Minneapolis and I'm interested in any opinions about the area. Nightlife, services, crime, grocery stores, you name it, I want to know. Any info that you folks can provide will be warmly welcomed. Thanks!!

I can tell you that I live 30 minutes from there!
Greensboro is a really nice city.
It is maybe a little larger than Winston-Salem, where I am, and has the famous UNCG.

My wife suggests that you make sure you live outside of Guilford County, because in-county limits has water restrictions. They are too stupid to build dams to collect their own water, so they buy it from outside the city.

Outside Guilford Co. is ok, and there is no water problems.

The atmoshpere/climate is great, the crime rate is lower than most big cities, and the entertainment exceeds my own city. Alot of people wanting to go to a good night-life entertainment will go to Greensboro.
The employment rate is very good in Greensboro, as well...
I may be moving to Greensboro in the next couple of years...due to being closer to UNCG.

Feel free to e-mail me on this, at woodruffamily@mindspring.com

The only other person I can think of that is close is Lord of Alcohol. He has been in this area longer than I have, living in Charlotte.

Thanks, Larry!!
So Pauly lives out there, too?!?! COOL!!If this happens, it would be nice to all ready know a couple of people in there area. LadyZ lives fairly close too, doesn't she? Somewhere in Virginia or West Virginia?
The are seems nice and the cost of living appears to be much lower than were we are now, plus, we might be able to both get nice pay increases out there. I like that. Thanks again!

Please, anyone else with input, feel free to post here. I'm looking for as much info, good AND bad as I can get to help us with this decision!

I have lived here in Raleigh for all of my life. I'm about 80 miles east of Greensboro. The climate in the state as a whole is extremely varied. In the western parts, where the Appalachian Mountains are the climate is mild with skiing weather a guarantee every year. The piedmont, central portion is fair and the coast warm. The summers here can be quite hot, this year the highest was over 100. The coldest can get to around the high teens or low 20s most of the time. The main thing about central and eastern NC is the humidity. It is very humid here during the spring and summer.
Development is always going on here. A road does not exist that the state is not trying to improve. Unfortunately, they are trying to fix them all at once so you have to learn patience, especially around the I-40 area in Greensboro. The cost of living is low and jobs do not seem to be too hard to find.
As for shopping, I don't know about specifics in Greensboro, but I know Food Lion, Lowes Foods, Winn Dixie, Wal-Mart, Target stores are in abundance.
Umm, let's see, what else... There are several universities all around the state, I for instance go to North Carolina State University in Raleigh. They offer a variety of specialties.
I know this is kind of scattered information but there is quite a bit to know about an entire state. I'll get back with you if I think of anything else.

Greensboro has the Four Season's Mall, which is a four story mall. It is not the largest in the Area, though. Here in Winston, we had the largest mall in the south-east, the Hanes Mall, until they built the new one in Conover, which expands over a mile, then, circles back on itself. It's freaking huge, and will be about 1 hour drive from you.

Hey there KDog! I fully endorse North Carolina, its a great place to live!As Larry said I'm in Charlotte, which is a couple hours away from Greensboro. I think you'll like the winters, I'm still wearing shorts I think in Minnesota I'd be in an Eskimo suit Hope you move here, I think you'll like it.

Well I know very little about NC, but when I saw your name linked to the thread Kdog I had to stop in and say "Hi"! Nice to see you.
Hey Pauly, how's the old hammer arm doing? Keep that pouch full of sinkers and other parafanalia and don't trip over any forms
Oh yeh, the super told me he didn't wanna find any more beer cans crunched up and stuffed in the seat of his king cab. For some reason he didn't sit down all day.

I'll try to keep my beer cans out of your superindents truck, and out of your too! Hey I did get a new truck, but I keep the cans out of it too. Throw them out the minute I get home
