The protagonist is quite simply the main character. About familiars, only the character first generated (ie main character) can have one. This is why characters such as Aerie get this message when casting Find Familiar.

Well, the word *Protagonist* isnt really an everyday word is it? I had to check what it meant from a dictionary, since i didnt know what it meant at first, either.

Here we go!
1)The main character in a drama or other literary work. 2)In ancient Greek drama, the first actor to engage in dialogue with the chorus, in later dramas playing the main character and some minor characters as well. 3)A leading or principal figure. 4)The leader of a cause; a champion.
