The Ultimate Stack

Being the thirty-fifth chapter of Stackman’s adventures

In which Stackman leads his people through the desert but shows appaling sense of direction and in which the party bows in awe of the Great Stack.

The party reached the shore of the Lost Sea. Soaked and quite exhausted they climbed ashore and camped for the night in the clearing near Talrik’s cart. The light from the smouldering embers of the bonfire was waning and the party was about to dig in when they heard a series of splashes in the water. It sounded far away but quickly it drew nearer. The party members eyed the shoreline intently as Stackman stepped ashore. Stackman and the party spent the night together and next morning they set off for the mountain pass.

Four days later Stackman and the party reached the summit of the mountain pass. There they encountered the three-headed hydra. Having once heard a tip on how to defeat the hydra they bombarded it with storm spells. (The hints of governors and barkeepers are listed on Page eight of the Best tips). The hydra was no match for the party.

For what might have felt like fourty years, but was in fact no more than two weeks, the party, under the leadership of Stackman, traversed the great desert. The desert was home to the rarest species of the Gael Serran fauna. Creatures such as the red dragons, the Azmodian rocs, and the bark horrors were living here, and the party had to exercise most of their spell arsenal.

Eventually vegetation became less sparse indicating that the party had reached the end of the desert. Along the north-eastern border of the Great Desert were many orchard-like groves in which the pirates of the sea had over the centuries hid their treasure. In one treasure chest the bard found the amulet called the monk’s ward.

Stackman led the party back through the desert right into the middle of the Isle of Sands. In the distance the party suddenly noticed the contours of a great pyramid and a group of other smaller buildings and obelisks. An appaling sense of direction… Instead of leading his people away from pharaoh, Stackman led them right to him.

Soon they had reached the pyramid and Stackman ran up the sides of the structure almost weeping with joy. The Great Stack of the Gael Serran – the veritable Mother of Stacks. Giant stone boulders piled on top of each other in the beginning of all times. Stackman could not conceal his joy, and a great many hours passed before he eventually came down. How he loved the pyramid. Now was the time to cleanse it of the evil that dwelled within. Stackman wanted this structure for his own.

Or rather: The time had not quite come yet. Casting the create portal spell the warlock then teleported the party back to Brimloch Roon. In the temple they were rewarded for having retrieved the monk’s ward. Thus ended the third and final quest given by the priest guild of Brimloch Roon. In the pawn shop some of the party members were rewarded for having retrieved the Talon’s Fang. Thus ended the third and final quest given by the thieves guild of Brimloch Roon. (The peculiar circumstances surrounding this and the previous pawn shop quest are explained by Sazerac on Page four of the Best Tips). In town hall the party was commended for having slain the hydra. Thus ended the second of two quests given by the town hall of Brimloch Roon.

Duke Brinsly accompanied the party through the cool groves of Brimloch Roon. People started congregating around the party and cheering. They were highly esteemed. They spent the night in Brimloch Roon, knowing they had no real haste. Next morning they went to the pier and said goodbye to the cheering crowd for the last time before their adventures would be over. They teleported back to the pyramid and found Stackman, just as they expected, still hugging the cornerstone of the pyramid quite lost in his own thoughts.

LOL! The Great Stack... the eighth wonder of the world!

Let's leave Stackman in his moment of privacy...

ROFL!!!! I love it!!!

They teleported back to the pyramid and found Stackman, just as they expected, still hugging the cornerstone of the pyramid quite lost in his own thoughts.

I would like to see a picture of that! Somewhere I think we did have pictures of various "weather vanes" atop the Great Stack!

We're so close to the end - ooooo hope you can drag it out a bit. I don't want to see the adventures of Stackman coming to an end too soon!

It actually sounds like a very disturbing quote
