On an individual level I have never met face to face an American that was not well mannered and unfailingly polite. and the same goes for everyone I know. People have an ability to see beyond the almost cartoon image the press portrays.
It is very kind of you to say, Wellard. Most of us are of the belief that the rest of the world hates our very guts.

I don't understand the shootings, either, or the reason that said idiot is still in the White House, except that the alternative (the VP) would be worse. Most people I know are huddled, waiting for 2008 when hopefully we can change something. I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever change, though, no matter who is in charge.

If you've never met a rude american you haven't met enough IMO. There are rude people in every culture. I usually judge the degree of rudeness though and run with that as a measure.

As far as who is in the white house, I find it funny that the presidential debates are starting early this year, almost as if people want to ignore his last year there and start thinking about a fresh new four.

No no, all americans I've ever met have been very friendly and likeable. The only thing most people in britain (well the ones I know) dislike, is your accents. The stronger the worse Sorry mate, but yeah over here the american accents sound over-done, over-emphasized, compare it to a lazyass british accent and you know what I mean.

Depends what you class as accent (just so happens that's what we're studying in English this module).

I have a very northern accent, you might call it "Geordie" (Newcastle accent, if you know it) but isn't as harsh/strong as that. I know I have an accent, but I don't think it's as strong as say, Liverpool or Birmingham accents.

Then there is RP, the Queen's pronunciation which is just a pisstake. Bloody southerners

lol standard BBC english is the reference NOT the queens, but a normal news reader's I guess. Which is kind of middle-class educated Londoner I guess. I think that's the standard, well London IS the capital after all. Northern accents are kind cool imo, but yeah very different to south - I kinda group all northern accents into one and southern accents into another category

True. US-bashing has more to do with American foreign policy that with the personality of the average American.

Heh.. well, I did have excellent Fish n' Chips on one occasion. I was spending the weekend with some friends in the UK, and they insisted on showing me the best Fish n' Chips shop in England. I have to admit.. they were excellent. Of course, on all other occasions (about two or three), both the fish and the chips ended in the garbage.

I'd also like to echo Wellards sentiments on Americans. I find them pleasantly direct and humerous. Then again, I've never actually been to the US, and the kind of people you meet on other continents tend to belong to a very specific group.
I also meet alot of the British when training through Amsterdam. They usually appear to be either drunk or high on substances (that's Amsterdam for ya), but quite pleasant none the less. As long as you don't make light of their favorite football-club.

Well, thanks to those knuckleheads that can't hold their liquor, or think they can fly out of their hotelroom once they had some magic mushrooms, the mushies are soon to be an illegal substance overhere. 3 or 4 incidents, caused by tourists from Britain, Germany, and France, and the government thinks mushies are a deadly drug. Goddamn tourists, stay the hell away from here, you're messing up our way of life.
