An Elf enters a tavern and says: "I'll give 15 gold pieces to the one who can drink 10 mugs of Strongfist's Ballbreaker back to back without falling over." Nobody takes the bet (that Ballbreaker is lethal stuff), but the only Dwarf present in the tavern promptly stands up and leaves.
After a minute or two he comes back in, orders 10 mugs of Strongfist's and downs them all, without so much as coming up for breath even once. The Elf hands him his gold and says: "Impressive, but if you don't mind me asking, why did you leave before you tried?"
"Aye," says the Dwarf, "I had to go to the pub next door to see if I could do it first."

Best line in LotR, Gimli in the Mines of Moria while trying to cross the crumbling bridge:

'No one tosses a dwarf'. Now I don't know about where you live but where I'm from 'tossing' has a particular meaning.

Oh ? In France we get movies dubbed, and it was translated as "No one throws a dwarf". Waaah we miss everything ...
