Curious, has anyone tried soloing IW? I've read a lot about soloing in the Baldur's Gate forums, but not a peep in here. Anyway, I've decided it'd be fun to try. I'm running a half-elven fighter/mage/thief. I've made it to Kuldahar thus far, and have only had to reload twice. Been using mainly hit-and-run tactics with a bow, and trying to avoid standing toe-to-toe with anything, as I've opted to forgo armor, with the exception of a helmet and a shield. I've got the max hp per level on, but other than that, I want to do it without any sort of cheating, using core rules. Think I can do it?

Does this game have an exp cap remover? Good luck to your attempt, but it will be very difficult without it.. even when F/M/T is equal of having 3 people in your party.

If your playing IWD only, your multi-class character is going to cap out with 600,000 xp per class. The cap for IWd is 1.8 million TOTAL (divided among all three classes). You should be able to solo that character thru the game.

My biggest problem is going to be carrying enough healing potions, I'd imagine. I would have preferred fighter/cleric/thief, had it been an option.

I'm sure that a lot of folks have already soloed IWD. I'm currently soloing three characters (although I play them on normal, I tried on hard but it was too painful)
The first is human female bard, and she is at level 3 of Dragon's Eye at game day 406.(currently playing)
Second one is male paladin, he is just about to move to level 2 of Kresselack's Tomb at game day 22. (currently on hold)
Third one is male dwarven fighter/cleric in the Kuldahar Pass at day 3. (on hold)
I tried also solo necromancer, but I gave up because the main power of any mage are spells and you can't buy spells in Easthaven. I remember him at level 5 and he had three empty level two spell slots, and his THAC0 was awful (18 IIRC)

Yuan-ti spellcasters at the penultimate level of DE. They're ability to cast confusion on characters is a real nightmare. One with very little defence. (Though I've only tried to solo on "Hard" so normal may be different.)

i think one of best soloing characters is ranger dualclassed to cleric or fighter dual classed to druid

and by the way.... ring of free action is very handy when soling.... seeing how many caster do hold person

Yeah, tell me about it. Ring of free action is truly a necessity. That pally I mentioned above was eaten by carrion crawler in the Vale at least twice. Unfortunately paladins aren't supposed to steal, and nobody else than Arundel and Orrick have them.

That is one of the wierd things about D&D + usually means subtract from the total and - means add to the total. A +5 THACO on a weapon is great is it lowers your current THACO by 5. So I believe 18 THACO is bad, very bad, but with a +5 weapon that will be lowered to 13THACO.
