Anyone know what GT compression is and where I can get the correct codec to view this type of file through media player?

As far as I can make out, this will be a two stage process. Firstly, you will need to decompress the file, then determine what codec is required to play the resulting media file. Unfortunately, I haven't found a suitable free decompresser, so it looks like you are in for a bit of Googling

Try using this: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
its a program thatll show you what codec it really is, and tell you what codecs you have that are compatable.

You can then install the nimo codec pack, which will likely have the codec that you need in it. obtained here: http://nimo.titanesk.com/main/modules/news/

Hmm I haven't heard of GT compression. Mouse, it's ALWAYS a 2 stage process with every video format except raw avi if you wanna be specific. Except what's the point of saying that? All players compress and play on-the-fly anyway.

Gabrielle's advice is good: I use G-spot myself and then getting a filter pack should sort you out. I haven't tried the one she suggests, I use Tsunami filter (codec)pack which has basically any you could ever want. But after you identify with Gspot, you should be able to search for that particular codec anyway.
A final bit of advice: get VirtualDub. This is a brilliant program that can read all video formats for which a codec is installed and can convert between them. It can also uncompress and recompress audio, change framerates etc. If you have a video file that is too big you can easily compress it with VirtualDub...you can set the audio and video bit rate etc.

Maybe I wasn't being clear enough. As far as I can make out, GT compression is is another way of reducing file size, so just as a media player won't play a .zip or .rar file without it being unpacked, a suitable programme will be needed to extract the .avi, .mpeg or whatever from it's compressed state. Then it becomes a question of finding the appropriate video codec to allow the media player to handle the file.

Have you tried renaming it zip or rar or ace or some video extentions like avi mpg and such? some free hosts do not allow some kind of files to be put on free web pages. Usually that happens with mp3s, but you never know. One way to avoid automatic deletion of the files / accounts is to rename them into something else when putting them online... maybe that's the case?
