I made my finesse fighter/duelist in a way that her parry skill is always maxed. This together with feats like improved parry and skill focus(parry) and the Militia background(+2 parry), gives your fighter a huge parrying bonus. Even before I got the "Duelist level to parry" bonus I was unbeatable in parry modus, when facing one or two enemies.
But then yesterday, something remarkable happened. I was at the part where I had to fight a big bunch of demons backed up by a hezrou. All my party perished quite rapidly, but managed to take out everything except a succubus and the hezrou. I retreated a bit, so they could only fight me one on one, and went into parry mode. Sure enough, after a few riposte attacks the succubus was lying on the ground, and then the hezrou charged me. I thought I was going to see the end for the first time! But surprisingly, even the hezrou turned out to be easy to parry. With a by then insane parry bonus of +30 or so, this beast wasn't going to get through my defenses unless he scored a critical hit. He did that a few times for a boatload of damage, but I had enough healing potions to back that up, all the while parrying his attacks. At first I thought I couldn't hit him due to damage reduction, but as it turned out, I occasionally hit for 1 or 2 damage, but critical hits went up to 18 or 20 damage. My rapier +3 had 1d6+3 base damage +1/2 strength +1d6 from precise strike, coupled with easy critical hits for double damage. After about 10 rounds of parrying and healing, that hezrou bit the dust, resurrecting all my party members, woohoo! [ 12-11-2006, 08:02 AM: Message edited by: JrKASperov ]

I remember I kept my Parry high in NWNs1 with my Paladin, and so I'm doing the same this time around with NWNs2 as well. Glad to hear it's not a waste and still makes a decent difference in battle regarding you avoiding enemy blows, yay!

The improved parry feat is a must though. In nwn1 parry was useless because it meant them still damaging you more than you them. That was because ripostes only happened on a +10 roll for you. Improved parry in nwn2 lowers this to +5, and gives you another parry attempt.
