On July the 11th a new law was voted at the Greek Parliament which does not allow gamers to play any kind of games while the law allows them to buy any kind of games they want. Which means that I can buy Neverwinter Nights but ,according to the law, I cannot even play it or just see how the game is! I cannot believe that they are some politics who believe that gaming is a threat for the country because by making this law they show this! So now, when I'll play Warcraft III maybe some cops will enter my house and arrest me because according to them, playing computer games can be a threat for the country. I am not joking, believe me, and I want your opinion on this subject. Do you believe that this law could bring any good to any country?

Why did they make this law ? And who exactly did it ? Is there a special reason they came up with a stupid thing like this ?

Are you serious? Thats majorly infringing on the personal rights area.. not to mention killing a decent-sized computer game market.

Of course there is, the violence in video games like Grand theft auto makes people kill people and take their cars. Bunch of idiots, they can't see the real problem. Just an example.
Of course I could be wrong. [ 07-30-2002, 09:09 AM: Message edited by: Sigmar ] |

Don't understand... If you're not allowed to play those games, why are you still allowed to buy them? Just strikes me as illogical.
Anyway, did they explain why they want to ban those games? Is it because they consider the content of those games morally objectionable or something?

But according to the law guys it is not against any law to buy a computer game but to play it is illegal! Now the good thing is that this law is only in Greece and so I am the only "criminal" here as I have a played thousands of hours Warcraft III! This law was created at first to stop the computer players from playing PC games at Internet Cafe and generally at public areas. Maybe they thought that if they are going to forbid computer gaming at public areas why not forbiding it and at private areas like our personal computers and stuff!

Come on, don't tell me you're the only one in all of Greece who plays Warcraft III?
Still fail to see any logic in it. If playing those games is supposed to be illegal, why import them in the first place? Stupid. It's like saying I can buy certain clothes but am not allowed to wear them, or can buy certain fruits but am not allowed to eat them. [ 07-30-2002, 09:20 AM: Message edited by: K T Ong ]

This is why the law is so stupid! They would better tell that it is illegal to buy them rather than forbiding as from playing them. This is so stupid!

Did they give any reason why they want to ban those games, Sir Byronas?
