IWD - Dorn`s Deep puzzle room. Help!

Okay...

I`ve made it into the puzzle room in Dorn`s Deep, ie the big circular room with symbols on the floor. After scratching my head for a long time, I finally figured out which three symbols to step on.

The problem is that nothing happens.

I get a message saying that I hear "machinery rumbling", but that`s it. Desperate, I took a look at the Ironworks walkthrough and according to this, a staircase is supposed to open up in the centre of the room. I tried stepping on the symbols again, but this didn`t do anything (not even a rumbling this time).

I have no saves before this room (I happily saved after the third rumbling), so I can`t reload. If I`m screwed, expect to see some CD`s flying out of a window somewhere in Sweden soon.

Did you, after stepping on all the correct tiles, exit the room and click the hammer of the statue next to the entrance? You didn't say if you did this or not in your post is why I'm asking.
