Philip Athans and Drew Karpyshyn. They horribly mutilated my beloved Baldur's Gate games in their books. Other than that...hmm. Probably Robert Jordan after them. God, the man talks forever.

Uhh...the only one out of them who I have heard of is Tolkien. Maybe because I read action novels and stuff. I voted for Tolkien anyway because IMHO, he is TOO detailed. Yeah, the grass is green, really green, billowing in the breeze, with happy hobbit children playing in it...get to the goblin killing already!

The most common complaint against Tolkien is that he is overly-descriptive. I tend to agree. It slows the pace of the novels too much. However, I wouldn't say it made him my least favourite author.
That ignominious title goes to Gary Gygax, who is a genius creator of games, but really should have been told a long time ago that he simply cannot write a decent novel for toffee. He truly is the epitome of useless, non-engaging, trivialising fantasy work. [ 09-08-2003, 04:12 PM: Message edited by: Bardan the Slayer ]

Tolkien. Definitely.
I got halfway through book 2 of his LotR trilogy and threw the book away in disgust. Reading should be a pleasure, not a bore as I found those books to be. I honestly think that most people say they like Tolkien because they feel they 'have to' or they will be ridiculed in a forum such as this (or any other RPG situation).

Tolkein seems to be both the fave fantasy writer and also the least fave writer
Well its all down to personal taste in the end.
