800x600 Was largest with just over 50 % 1024x768 Was second with 35 % (This is the one that eats up 800x600 the most!) 640 x 480 and 1280x 960 was roughly the same due to their numbers.. 1152 abd others hac about 1 % or something.. These settings vary alot but the most common ones that has over 80 % ! (On most places actually world wide , due to them and several others was 800x600 and 1024x768) i still think that a page that is really good take into consideration of different resolutions and make a nested frameset or a small one that opens anew set window.. ------------------ Yawning lazywolf dreaming about nice little fairies...zzzzz Wolfgirs lair once-upon-a-paper |

OKI, couldn´t edit my previous post, grrr.. This is how I wanted it to be!! grrr
Hmm, I guess most stat places have their own numbers, but Statmarket a leading company had a worldwide setting with roughly these numbers.. (Both home and companies) 800x600 Was largest with just over 50 % 1024x768 Was second with 35 % (This is the one that eats up 800x600 the most!) i still think that a page that is really good take into consideration of different resolutions and make a nested frameset or a small one that opens anew set window.. OKI, instead of writing from my lousy memory, check this link out instead (yep I finally found it hehe!) http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2001/March/res.html ------------------ Yawning lazywolf dreaming about nice little fairies...zzzzz Wolfgirs lair once-upon-a-paper |

1024 x 768, both work and home.
As Sazerac said, there is a way to have your page check for these settings and rout people to defferent versions of the page according to their screen resolution. I will look around to find the info on this practice. As has been request, post a link so we can view your work.

I designed my site to be user friendly at 800x600 and up. Go to www.tgeweb.com and scroll down to the bottom, then click on that black and blue little icon box, and it shows stats for this site, you'll see what people use here to post, and surf. (Below is some of the stats) 1024x768 715765 43.21% 800x600 638439 38.54% 1280x1024 127170 7.67% 1152x864 85135 5.14% 640x480 43812 2.64% Other 23521 1.42% 1600x1200 22336 1.34% PS: look at that, 1280x1024 is ranked higher than people using 640x480! So I wouldn't cater to the 640 crowd.. BTW, the stats for this site aren't 100% correct. Also, when creating your website, you could use percent's instead of actual pixels, so if you're at 800x600 it'll fit, and at higher resolutions it will stretch out to fit that size. I am doing that with my next web design layout for Ironworks. ------------------ Ziroc Ironworks Webmaster www.tgeweb.com/ironworks |

a lot of my current layout requires me to use exact pixel settings for frames, so the text aligns correctly. what i'm doing is making multiple versions for multiple resolutions. probably 3 pages. low med and high.
i have found a cool java script that i can use for the index page, that detects your resolution and routes you to the correct page. if you want to get a look its at http://slackerboy.iwarp.com ------------------ Get The IronWorks Winamp skin |
