Master of Magic was a fantasy clone of civilisation made by Microprose - crap graphics, fantastic gameplay. Had lots of extras like heroes, spellcasting, dungeons to explore etc. Unfortunately won't run on Windows 9x.

Europa Universalis was released this year by Paradox Entertainment, and is a conversion of a boardgame that covers 300 years of European history 1492 - 1792.
It features colonisation, diplomacy, infrastructure development, warfare - you name it, it's got it. It is slow to play but if you like strategy and persevere it rewards you tenfold.

1. Ultima 7 (The Black Gate and Serpent Isle)
2. X-Com(UFO Defence & Terror From the Deep only)
3. Baldur's Gate series
4. Darklands(if someone can find a copy of darklands let me know I will buy it)
5. Starcraft/Warcraft

I do want to put some more up here that should be in here but there is just not enough room in 5.

Maniac Mansion "The Day of the Tenticle", Monkey Island series, and Command and Conquer series.

Boy does this bring back memories! I would have to say:

1) Wizardry 7
2) Might & Magic: World of Xeen (4+5 combined into complete world)
3) Master of Magic (incredible fantasy strategy game)
4) Diablo I & II
5) Command & Conquer (first RTS game that I played live versus other humans)
