Already reading the book has stirred my interest in Japanese history, so far I have purchased the Osprey book on samurai (covers upto 1600 IIRC). Eventually I hope to buid a wargaming army of Samurai, ashigaru (SP?) etc. I have attended some of the wargames shows, and one modelling one, but really I only paint and model build to provide wargames stuff. I've heard of campaign but not played it. Its by SPI isn't it - (or am i getting confused here?).
Generally my wargaming interest are in the 20th century, but more Ancient/medieval stuff has appealed to me. I see Yorick cites Shogun as his favourite game (now Samurai Swords), have been thinking of buying it to have a game for Samurai conflict, without having to paint shed loads of stuff. ------------------ Your ad here? |

Yes I've got the Osprey book tucked away in a box somewhere. As I recall it has a picture of Kato Kiyomasa sitting on a tiger skin (he killed it in Korea) on the front with a large (I forget the Jap' name for it) lance (there is actually a fantastic 90mm model of him available in that pose to paint along with one or two others.) Their military history makes for fantastic reading, it's a real shame that the West completely killed their culture and merchants effectively killed the Samurai (to serve) caste. The 16th century dealt with in the book you mention is known as the Momoyama period - the age of battles and is one of many interesting periods. Incidentally did you know that every single cherry tree you see in this country was actually bought over from Japan just after that period?
Shogun the game, I've played and enjoyed, again a long long time ago. I can't remember the manafacturer of Campaign unfortunately but I think on a personal level Risk was slightly better. It's sods law but I can't immediately recall the authors name of the books that I wanted to recommend to you, as soon as it returns I'll post it and the titles. ------------------ One love, peace. |

I didn't know about the cherry trees, interesting since we had one in our garden when I was a child. The Osprey I got I think is a very new edition, the cover I shows stylised painting of a samurai. I like the picture inside of a Samurai wearing a steel breast/back plate of a Spanish Conquistadore. (Sorry don't remember the term for this piece of armour - Cuirass comes to mind)

You snuck one in there Sir Tainly.
Yeah I'm doing IWD and enjoying it immensely. The Snakehead thing is a bit vague for me and my short term memory is a little err damaged let's say. I can't remember it and am fearful of spoiling you. Suffice to say I think I'm approaching the last dungeon area called Lower ***** ****. Unfortunately I think my disc is corrupt so I crash on entry and it's a pain in the arse trying to get it replaced. It's on the back burner temporarily and I'm finishing up on TOTSC now. ------------------ One love, peace. |

Well to be precise I'm in the Dragon's Eye, just before I get the HeartStone. The Snake thing has it. Don't know if this would work, but I could burn you a copy of my disc (if it copies) and send it to you so you could play on. Only thing is how to i do if my disc works, if you are further ahead than me.
Even so I will glady make a copy of it if you want. ------------------ Your ad here? |

BTW if copying fails, IWD is now available for £10.
