Good post, Tancred!

I have no idea who would win in a one on one fight (again, Tancred's first post seems pretty plausible), but I have to say that when I played BG1 and BG2, I had most difficulties in the fight against Sarevok. Oh, and Magambo, you are so right!! That demon was really really tough! (why is everybody spelling it as "tuff"? is it because you're afraid you might misspell it? )

About the battle with AecLetec. I tried different strategies, but what worked was casting haste, bless, chant, defensive harmony on my main fighter, then he drank potion of cloud giant strength and potion of heroism, wielding SpiderBane(for free action), he went down alone, first kill all the cultists, then he fails save versus death gaze, he came up, I dispelled him then spelled him up in a similar manner, he switched to World's edge, went down and chopped the stupid tanarri into itty-bitty pieces. Thsi strategy worked the first time I tried it

Regarding possible battle Irenicus vs Sarevok
Round one.
Irenicus raises his defenses (stoneskin, mirror image, whatnot) with a spell trigger or chain contingency, whatever.
Sarevoks tries to hit him.
round two.
Irenicus - black blad of disaster
Sarevok - still trying to hit him.
round three.
Irenicus - timestop, chops sarevok into minced meat.
Sarevok - whatever, does not matter.

How is that? But I have to agree, Sarevok is much better throught-through character. Sarevok is determined. Irenicus is obsessed.

If Sarevok is 100% magic resistant, he would win hands down. Irenicus was simply not smart enough in battle (his AI) to fight a magic-resistant enemy. He used disintigrate, limited wish, death, and one other spell that doesn't exist in the rest of the game. Sarevok could just sit there and take everything Irenicus throws at him, until all his spells are used up. Then, bye bye Elven mage.

Then again, Irenicus would have trouble killing a single Mind Flayer.

'The blade of Sarevok, brother of , used in the battle they fought in faraway Baldur's Gate. prevailed, destroying Sarevok's plans and rescuing the Sword Coast from the brink of war. The sword itself defies identification, likely forged specifically for Sarevok to best focus the infernal energy he hoped to control. Much of its power died with him.'

Call me Sherlock Holmes, but the Sword of Chaos seems to have had much more 'oooomph' in Sarevok's hands. And anyway, a level 15 fighter with Grand Master proficiency and a +2 Two-handed Sword is still a formidable foe one-on-one!
