Don't take me too harshly on the music thing. But I really do find that acid rock stuff to be bad noise. There just doesn't seem to be any talent involved. And the problem I have with Heavy Metal is, there always seems to be than Satanic aspect to it. Iron Maiden, Ozzy, you know. Striper is the only acception I know of, but then they are Christian.
Yeah, and we all know only Christians can make good music! Right? Right... With all due respect (seriously), you have not an inkling what you're talking about, I'm afraid. Firstly, you are mixing up completely different styles. Acid rock? Heavy metal and hardcore are not at all the same thing. You're also way off on the "Satanic" thing. Without even going into the fact that for the bands who DO dabble with the occult, it's just an image, a way to rile up people like you and to add a dark little edge to their music, I have to ask whether it really matters what someone believes in in order to appreciate their music. I didn't think so. And as for your remark about the lack of talent in metal/hardcore bands, I am not sure whether to laugh or roll my eyes in contempt - I think I did both simultaneously and it wasn't a pretty sight. I would REALLY like to see you play just a few bars of any song by, oh, Meshuggah, Cynic, Queensryche or The Mars Volta (none of which, I'm afraid, are "satanic" bands, so you can't hide behind that excuse either ). No talent? Are you kidding me? Some of the most inventive, complex and difficult music is being made under the banner of "Metal". Again, I'd advise you to attempt to learn just a tiny bit more about a subject before you start talking, next time. This impassioned and heartfelt rant, by the way, was brought to you by someone who spends 90% of her music-listening time adoring classical music. You know, the kind with the Christian masses and violiny goodness? Can't say I'm a brainless metal fan whose brains have long ago dribbled out of my ears from all the "noise".
I <3 MEL !! Hmm, violinny goodness and metal mixed in one, there's only one band you can go for, and that's elvenking. You should get an album of theirs, they're realy spectacular With the Violin playing, then the guitar playing the same thing yet with distortion on, they're great.
[EDIT]Phillip, the song you're talking about would be 'Progenies of the Great Apocalypse' And yes, it is great [ 12-18-2004, 02:07 PM: Message edited by: TheGodThatFailed ]

That rocked!!!!! Altho you can mosh all alone, it would look a lot like that, moshing is a community thing... You gotta have ppl to do it, not just 1 person.
for someone who jumps into the pit when the music is at the right feel, this kinda thing is a soul cleansing experience and I pity those who never try it (or sit back and bash on it...) Silentthief

I find this site often has samples: http://musica.mustdie.ru/en/musicians
It's lots of different bands and probably the best way to search is via mp3 samples and then click the genre. Or if you know names just via the alphabet. |

Variol, I named a few names in my first post, didn't I? There's no need to demand I name more, those bands are a good place to start. But if you're going to "decide" whether they are "good" bands, I have to say it would really help if you had at least a passing knowledge of music theory, or simply a good ear for music. It's hard to appreciate a particularly well-played 7/8 beat in a song if you don't know anything about rhythms, etc. Not saying that you don't, of course, I wouldn't know about that.
Oh, BTW, the symphorock you listen to, in its own time, was considered to be "noise". It's really a very lame and petty thing to call something noise just because you don't understand it. I'll give you that there are a lot of crap bands out there, IN EVERY GENRE, but as I said before, that's not at all what you were saying before. You had an issue with metal as a whole, not with the fact that every genre, including metal, includes not so good bands. Thanks Uncle Vasky, I know you get similar "educated" and well-argumented comments about how rap is crap. You know yours isn't my style either, but be assured I'll never be so ignorant as to call all rap crap. Aaron, behave! Sigmar, I think the debate of old music vs new music is not a very fruitful one. There are innovative music makers now, things are being done that weren't done in any of the previous centuries, but on the other hand, there aren't many people how can appreciate the inventivity and creativity of old music (starting in the Middle Ages). It's nonsense to say music used to be better. It's also nonsense to say modern music is better. Oh and Beethoven better than Mozart? No bloody way!

Well Melusine, I don't remember "demanding" anything from you but whatever. I was born in Germany so I was surrounded with the masters of classical music. Many of them were in the story albums we used to play.
..and I never heard the 3 above mentioned bands to be considered noise in my time. I think another issue for me is that I can't hear the lyrics of many of the songs with all the screeming going on and that's the most important part of the song for me. If I don't agree with what they're saying, I won't listen.
