Default Game error?

Sorry to make my inaugural post here be a request for possible bug assistance, but my search to find an answer isn't working very well.

I just re-installed this on my new computer (Athalon, 3G ram, 256MB video card, I know it can handle it).

I can start and run the game fine, but my targetting doesn't seem to work.

Examples:

In valeia, I can click on the inn, temple, blacksmith, and easern gate, but not the graveyard gate or the magic guild.

Going out the east gate, I run into the bandits (which I remember from years ago). But when I target over the lead one, the target reticule doesn't change... unelss another one of them is RIGHT behind him. And then, when I attack, I hit the one in back.

I've tried software driver, hardware 480X640, and hardware 800X600 on my settings, to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Alright, nevermind with the towns. I've used the tech tips to rectify that one.

Anyone got any ideas on the "hard to target" NPC's (and also, hard to target objects, say, on the ground)?

Glad to see you've found the answer, Mousemaster, and welcome to the Gael Serran! May treasure prove less elusive than the answers to your questions...

Targeting things is quite a challenge, in many ways. I often find it easier to look down on the ground when I'm trying to target them, and sometimes moving back or forward makes it easier.

As for opponents... well, try to look for a spot that doesn't change I often click like mad, hoping to catch a pixel at the right time...

On the graphic option, try to switch around hardware mode or software mode (something along those lines).

Try out compatibility modes for Win 95 & 98 (right click on either a shortcut or deep6.exe itself --> properties --> pick compatibility options)

On my desktop, I get best targeting software mode & Win95 compatibility.

On my laptop, it's ten times better in software mode & Win98.

*shrugs* no idea -- just works. and welcome to the boards!

thank you for that excellent advice.

A combination of Win - 98 compatibility and software driver has it so that my targetting is flawless. I can enjoy the game again without having to aim at people's boots
