It's all about what you want to get out of it. A GF2 class card will offer very acceptable performance in all but the most demanding games... for $40-$100 US.

A GF3 or Radeon 8500 will set you back $200 or more and (at least for me) better than double the performance.

For the same cash you can get a GF2 AND a burner.

It depends on what you really want.

I have recently (...half a year ago) bought 1.4Ghz pc from my vendor for about $2000, and here are the specs:

P-4 1.4Ghz
256 mb rdram
GeForce 2 GTS pro 64 DDR
40Gb hard drive
and a 17" samsung monitor

I'm not really satisfy with my GeForce 2 card(although the graphics are still pretty good). I actually wanted to get a GeForce 3 Ti 500 or the ATI radeon 8500 (which one is better?). I hope that NWN will run smoothly with my computer, although bioware claims that the minimum requirement is 300Mhz(???), but from the past experience we had with BGII, I think that it will be way higher than that (maybe about P-III 800Mhz?)

I'm a loyal nvidia customer ever since 3dfx went out... but the 8500 is a FAST card. I think I'd still take the ti500 because it's quite a bit cheaper than the 8500... but ati has a very nice product. You might also consider waiting just a bit... the 128meg cards are coming and they'll be 30%+ faster than either the ti500 or the 8500.

I have did a lot of researches and inquiries, based on what i know, i believed that the ATI radeon 8500 card is a little bit cheaper than the GeForce 3 Ti 500...

Surely everyone knows that GeForce 4 is way better than GeForce 3, but i can say with confident that it will be way more expensive than GeForce 3, too. Remember GeForce 2 Ultra??? If i am correct, the first few months it arrived, the selling price was up the roof...

If so ...

Machine 1:

Dual 1 gig processors
1 GIG of RAM
171 Gigs of HD space - 6 stacked Ultra Wide SCSI Hard drives (4 - 36 gig, 1 - 18 gig, 1 - 9 gig) - dual controllers
DUAL 21" monitors!

*drools* I've only got a pIII 550 with 256mb RAM, 32mb GeForce2mx (the only thing that's any good ), 20gb HD and a 56k dialup

And unfortunatly, my list of things to buy goes somthing like this
1: New car
2: New snowboard
3: New computer
So maybe by the time I have the dosh for a comp, your specs will be moderately affordable (thinking along the lines of 2010)
