Strewth this is HUGE .. check your TV if you have not seen it yet. They now reckon it's over 8 and maybe one of the biggest ever recorded. I am seeing images of houses and factories getting rolled by the Tsunami. you can see people literally (sp?) running for their lives.

Heartbreaking

Hawaii Tsunami WARNING issued. They say Imminent threat is approaching. I've never seen that type of 'spooky' statement from NOAA/USGS for Hawaii.

Large areas of Japan's northern Pacific coast have been swamped by a devastating tsunami, engulfing entire towns following a major 8.9 offshore quake.

The massive wave of water, as high as 10 metres in some parts, reached more than five kilometres inland.

News just said the quake was 8.9 and had a 7.0 aftershock! Also they expect the tsunami to hit Hawaii @ 8a.m. eastern time, and there's a tsunami warning for at least 20 countries -- basically the whole Pacific as far away as Guatamala, El Salvador, & Costa Rica! They also warn there could be several waves.

I bet you anything this was what geologists call a "Mega-Thrust" quake. Much like the Sumatra-Andaman 9.1 in 2004.
What happens is the sub-ducting Pacific plate is sliding under Japan, and eventually snaps. This thrusts upward the Asian plate (creating the massive Tsunami).

I hope to all the Gods anyone and everyone believes in we don't have a death toll like the 2004 boxing day quake.. I don't get emotional much.. rare as hell, but seeing this is just so upsetting.. that and the Christchurch quake).. The ring of fire sure is active.... I sure hope it calms down. I don't know how much more we can handle...
