Cynical me asks: Any chance he used this as a way to talk people into donating to his ministry? Maybe he's too busy counting donations to answer the phone...

Oh, the donation basket gets passed 'round at the very least. The trick is to get more people in your ministry so your basket comes back full. That and whatever other shennanigans he tried pulling (i.e. selling religious products, pledging money).

What the swine flu was for the pharmaceutical industry, the "end of the world" is for the church. If you think some impatient charlatan who couldn't wait until 2012 is bad, just wait until THAT date arrives. For a handsome donation and our undying devotion and/or worship of some dude in robes, I think we will find that we can all make the rapture.

Didn't take him long to rebound: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43140373/?gt1=43001

Looks like it's October now.

I knew he would change dates since his first prediction had the rapture, then everyone left burns up in October. He was thinking ahead, probably didn't even believe his own prediction so had a back up date to keep his publicity going. I reckon once October comes and goes and we are all still here, he will switch to the 2012 stuff.

Unless, of course, his calculation was off by a day & it was on Friday the 20th, and Randy "Macho Man" Savage was the only one taken. God wanted a Slim Jim...
