Thanks for all the advice and info. I knew KaZaa wouldn't be "spyware free". That was just a pipe-dream.

As for "recovering" my old files, a coworker said that she had managed to retrieve her files after installing a new HD on her PC and neglecting to copy her music files.

I had quite a few files, but I doubt I would be considered a "major user". After about 2 years of downloading songs and videos - I still had less than 200 files total.

I used KaZaa because it was better than Morpheus or WinMX at the time (Morheous was absolutely LOADED with spyware that took over my PC as soon as I browsed through it.

According to the latest ruling from the 9th Circuit Court, software like Gnutella and the other popular one right now were found innocent of copyright infringement (RIAA is appealing the decision, naturally).

Since I still have not gotten my main PC back online, I won't be downloading ANY type of new software for awhile.

Thanks again for all the comments.

Try Ares, it has a similar format to Kazza but it is spyware free and pretty fast.

You can get it off Dowmload.com.

Actually Cerek, Kazaa Lite WAS spyware free when I downloaded and installed it last year. I was doubtful, too, when they said it on 'The Screen Savers', but I cleaned my system before installing and again afterwards, and guess what? Nothing new was found. The only other similar product I'd downloaded that was spyware free was WinMX, which you seem unimpressed with.

iMesh is one I used to really like, and while it is loaded with spyware, you can uninstall everything it throws your way EXCEPT the CyDoor products, which are fairly harmless. You can uninstall the CyDoor products, too, but then iMesh fails to work.

Good Luck!

Emule is very good and completely spyware free. Their website is not the emule.com one but the emule-project one

Of course you are all talking about downloading freeware programs and songs, right?

If someone feel like confessing to his crimes I'm sure Choc has some time to listen...

No? Then let's keep talking about out non-illegal downloading habits...

Do they sell songs in bulk over at Sam's Club? If so, to accomodate pricing, does each compilation come from a single band/artist/noise factory/corporate meat puppet?

I'm just not sure, but I think I'll stick to classic music, that no one cares about anyways.

I need a new copy of the White Album, my first production Vinyl LP is just...old...Sounds great, but it's a relic, must be tended heartily and lovingly.
