I was thinking, would it be possible to solo with a non-warrior class, like a pure mage. I agree that the first few chapters would be impossible, but after that, would they be able to stand up to the larger armies later on?

I was considering importing my necro into the beginning of the game once shes maxed out, and just seeing how i do. Id like to see the goblins bothering Damien stand up to 3 fire elementals

Just curious if anyone has ever tried this, and where the problems arose...

I think that a druid, cleric, or bard could do okay soloing. You wouldn't do as well as you would with a warrior class, but you would get a lot of spells much more quickly. If your priest is evil, all the better...Slay Living and Destruction could be very nice against some of the enemies you encounter.

Pure Mage? No... just... no...

The problem with mage would be like Dundee said to find scrolls. Most of the game you'll find yourself with empty spell slots several levels ahead.

Bard I think would be worst. No good spells (see mage above). Poor combat (only 1 apr!!!). Not too good armor. And the thing that makes bards powerful - songs - are useless when soloing. Perhaps the only thing worse than bards for soloing are thieves.

The only non-warrior class I'd seriously consider soloing are clerics. Pehaps its most useful ability would be the high level turn undead, making some regions extremely easy. Add to that good armor, good spells: buffs, offensive and SUMMONS (that animate undead), find traps, decent thaco (best in all non-warrior, I believe), and some good weapons.

Hmm yeah, some interesting points. I haddnt considered the fact that a level 14 mage in dragons eye would only have the same scrolls as any other mage in dragons eye...

I think it's possible, but very difficult.

I did try the cleric, but it's still hard to hit things.

One additional advantage to the cleric is the low level undead summons.

It was an evil cleric, and the frustrating part about using an evil cleric was that I would control undead instead of destroying them outright - meaning I had to use them to kill each other.
