Well of course when I see a highlited "Battle Tech" Im thinking CRPG or Turn Based Strategy Game. This time here is what I found.

Boeing film shows attack on Muslims
By Michael Paterson
(Filed: 02/12/2002)

A promotional film made by Boeing that shows an attack on a fictional Islamic city has been condemned as "irresponsible" and "insensitive" by Muslims.

The film, titled "The Army - Objective Force: Realising the Vision", is being shown to British firms to promote the next generation of battle technology.

It shows buildings being blown up by unmanned aircraft and tiny high-speed robot tanks. Mosques are clearly seen in the film, which resembles a video game and features a heavy assault in the year 2016 on a fictitious town called Takkbu.

A narrator says the new technology, heavily reliant on satellites, aims to eliminate all collateral damage. Mosques and hospitals are given as examples of buildings that must not be hit.

Boeing, which has a multi-million dollar order from the Pentagon to provide technology for America's Future Combat Systems programme, is attempting to interest British companies in sub-contracted work. It is likely that the Ministry of Defence will eventually adopt parts of the programme.

An industry representative said he was "taken aback" by the presumption that America's future wars would be against Islamic countries and found the film "distasteful".

Iqbal Sacranie, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: "This is very insensitive. It endorses a strong feeling prevailing among Muslims that this so-called War on Terror by America is a war on Islam. A film like this is irresponsible."

However, a Boeing spokesman said: "This is not about West against East. The technology is part of a new type of warfare; one in which gathering information is critical."

I think the people protesting the film are just trying to duck the truth. The truth is, that it is likely that future conflicts will include Islamic cities, after all, Islam is one of the largest religions in the world no?

On another vein, this just goes to show once again the great effort and expense that the US and other western countries go to to try and minimize civilian casualties. Unlike the vallient freedom fighters who fight the great satan by blowing up women and children and civilians whenever possible.

Which is the real issue. As much as people can criticize the USA for many many things, warmongering amongst them, their aim to minimise collateral damage is what truly seperates them from the terrorist psychopaths.

Hmmm that reminds me of something...

In Gasaraki, A Japanese TV series targeted at analyzing the "future" of warfare, a "Sadam-like" figure who leads a nation called "Belgistan" Is considered the enemy and it invoulves warfare between them and the US using Japanese technology (on both sides thanks to Hong Kong's free trade issues after they get their hands on a few robot designs of their own and gladly sell them to the militants) produced from a fictional sony-like zaibatsu called "Gowa" and seems very realistic in some parts. It was supposed to have a fantasy plot too but nobody actually cared about that . The fact that the robots could be built today and could easily outshoot any tank by repelling up walls and being like giant soldiers on the battlefeild, it pretty much showed up every previousely used weapon of war, everything from missile turrets to F-18 Super Hornets taking off from the Naval base in Okinawa are easily evaded and taken out by the bulky machines. The only problem they had to deal with was overheating and battery power, which lasted only about half an hour, that and piloting the machines tended to make the users go a little out of their minds for some reason... I'm sure it'll be more like battletech tho... just not as big...

Well I can't wait to see some Mechs lumbering about!

Big walking killing machines = Cool!

I think that it is also part of the sputtering effort to insist that our next war will not be with an Islamic country. Any mention of war with an Islamic country brings out the Left in full cry. P.S., anyone remember the brouhah when Disney's Alladin was introduced by a heavily-accented turban figure who spoke of the corruption of the city? It was set in a Baghdad-like city, for crying out loud.

Attalus, did you know that due to complaints form the Anti-Arab Defamation League (or some such group), Disny had to change the lyrics to the main theme song? Why you ask? because it accurately described legal issues in the Middle east, such as cutting off the hands of thieves.

Yes...because the song was accurate, they had a hissy fit and demanded that the song be changed.
