Choose a motherboard with enough "slots" whether they be SATA, PCI Express, PCI, or IDE. You'll want at least one of each

I second the ASUS comment, and have nothing but success with the 4 boards I've owned by Asus.
http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l...60&modelmenu=1 I'm not sure what kind of prices you'll see on that board, or availability in Poland for that matter, but it's a good mid-range board that has every feature that you'll probably ever need. That motherboard coupled with the X2 3800 should be nice and quiet since it uses heatpipe technology instead of loud fans. For memory, as has been stated before, shoot for 2GB (2 1GB sticks in dual channel) If that's out of your price range, than go for a single 1GB stick and add a second matched stick when funds permit. Finally, cases are mostly an asthetic choice, although airflow does come into play. Be very cautious of the power supplies that come with cases as they tend to be very cheap and extremely over-rated. A cheap 500W power supply often times is the equivalent of a 300W quality unit. The power supply is one of the most important pieces in the entire PC, so make sure you get a quality unit from a good manufacturer.

I'd recommend you go Conroe to be honest. Get the 6300, it overclocks like a charm, and get some quality RAM. It's much better for gaming than AMD at the moment, and it'l offer a good upgrade for future.

Don't use on board Audio, it will really drag the system down, and 2GB of RAM will do you good. All in all not a bad rig.
I personally prefer the intel chips especially like the looks of core duo but havn't speced out the pricing yet. |

I have recently bought a new PC and got the Core2Duo E6600 (2.4) with a Asus LGA775 (with onboard sound) and the sound is great and so is the rest of the system.
Haven't noticed any dragging down of the system at all. I also think a wise investment is 2GB of RAM. I got Corsair Ram which have a lifetime replacement if faulty. I have the same Video card and its running great!

Well you see with the Dual Core setup, you will notice less of an impact from onboard sound....On board sound is CPU intensive but since you have the extra core sitting there to help out....

Just slightly off topic, it's funny looking at threads like these over the years and see how technology's just improved in leaps and bounds, eh. I posted my own thread about getting a new PC back in 2001 - 5 years ago.
Then four years ago, in 2002, this is what we all had. Then two and a half year ago (2004), this is what might have been considered "standard". Amazing, eh. |
