I seriously dislike the swedish language...

yeah, the thing is, i dont think ill be taking German or any other language any time soon, nor do i think id be needing Swedish in the future. and yes, swedish is still mandatory in Finland, though the students are trying hard to make it un-mandatory. oh well, ill just do my best and a little better, as they say [img]smile.gif[/img]

And yes, you're right. The Swedish grammar is a bit like English. Knowing English grammar helped me a lot when I was learning Swedish grammar. Most people I knew when I was learning Swedish had big problems with grammar, but no problems in vocabulary (because they've been living here a long time) but I had no grammar problems at all but big problems in vocabulary. I am improving though.
Anyway, maybe you should go back to the basics of grammar. You can start with English. Just get a simple book of English grammar, so that you will see how it works in English, and then maybe you can compare it to Swedish... I did that because Slovene is so much different than Swedish. Try it, maybe it'll help. And if it doesn't, then you'll just have to go learn everything by heart. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Well, I am very sympathetic. Unfortunately, I don't know Swedish. RM, what EXACTLY on the test did you screw up on? I mean was it vocabulary, noun genders, verb conjugations, etc.? I've studied several languages and could maybe give you some generic helpful study hints if I knew where you are having the most trouble.

I take it that you speak English and Finnish. It's ironic, I have heard that Finnish is extremely difficult.

Cause a diplomatic situation between your countries, invade and conquer Sweden within a few days, make Finnish the sole language of both countries, then go back to school the following week with your future bright and rosy
The English did it to other countries for years with great success [img]graemlins/hehe.gif[/img]

I am sorry you still have to struggle with Swedish, neighbour. I know how hard it has been for me to try and pick up Finnish. I can easily admit that I gave up pretty quick, but then I have had a hard time learning any language.

If you like, why don't you add some of the Swedes from here to your msn list or something and start to question them for some help or start talking with them in Swedish? Using a language seems to be the best way to learn it.

the things i screwed up in? well, it would be a bit easier to say what i didnt screw up in...the test itself wasnt a big one, mainly vocabulary and the declensions of the words. they were pretty simple words like yrke(job) dikt(poem)and basic words like that, but i didnt know what they were then, so i failed. the thing that makes it so hard is that you have to get 55% correct to pass!! oh well, ill just study harder for the next one.

btw, im a, what do you call it, a dual nationality, maybe? anyway, im an american citizen, but im also a Finnish citizen, hence i know the finnish language. so theoratically i could become the president of the USA or finland(i wonder if i could be both [img]graemlins/1ponder.gif[/img] ). and you are correct, finnish is ranked as one of the hardest languages in the world(right there with chinese, korean and japanese), due to its strange grammar.
