Ok the Subject speaks for itself...
I gathered some spare cash and was thinking about buying IW2 for the holidays. My problem is, will it be worth the money? Will i have as much fun as i had with BG series??? Is it a game to write home about??? Thanks for your replies in advance

Icewind Dale 2 is really worth of it. Scenario line is enjoying. And also 3rd edition rules new feats they are all worth of it. Not to mention lots of merchants and items and nice towns to visit.

I loved Bg and Bg2. I like IWD2 better. Some rules differnces and no Class kits but IWD2 is good game if you enjoy RPG.

Okay, i'm considering of buying IWD II too, so can you guys be more specific? Cause i don't want to own another game like NWN (*sob* i think i'm gonna trade that game in...). Recently, i bought myself Unreal Tournament 2003 so i'm kinda running outta cash now...so you guys will need to try REALLY hard to hook me in...(maybe i can trade in NWN, add a bit of cash, then i can afford IWD II...aren't i just innovative?)

If you liked the BG series, you'll like IWD2 (more or less). I personally dislike the linearity and the hacknslash overkill of the IWD series, but it's still
worth buying. IWDII uses 3rd ed rules to wonderful effect, so you can do pretty much whatever you want insofar as party design goes. Loads of replay value. I have heard that NWN sucks but haven't played it. |

FWIW, I didn't like NWN either, but really like IWDII. Have you played any of the other IE games (Baldur's Gate I & II, IWD I)? If so, you will enjoy it. If not, then...well, get them, too...
It's fun if you like party-oriented games with lots of battles, good strategy required, some puzzles, obligatory FedEx quests, decent character development (that is, you can customize your characters' skills, but they don't really "grow", a la Baldur's Gate). If you list some games you have enjoyed it might help (e.g. M&M or W&W - if those letters mean nothing to you, list something else). - Imrahil |

Yeah...i have baldur's gate II and its expansion set, i really enjoyed them...though it doesn't work on my computer anymore after i switched to a cordless optical mouse (the icons on the bottom of the screen stop responding when i clicked on them...). So basically, i'm looking for another game that can replace my sorrow... NWN didn't do it, so i guess it's up to IWD II then...

In that case, you should like IWD II. Granted, it's not as involving as BG - it's more of a dungeon crawl with less character interaction & plot points - but you'll still like it. If you enjoyed BG, I totally recommend buying IWDII (& IWDI if you haven't already).
Sounds like you like the same type of games I do & I'm very happy with my purchase of IWDII. - Imrahil |

I wasn't too sure about this game myself. I thought BG1 and 2 were amazing, IWD was pretty good, and I'm having a really difficult time getting into NWN (as my multiplayer is limited by a cheap modem connection)... but I bought IWD II recently, just started Chapter 1, and am already loving it. Lots of good NPC (townfolk and stuff) dialogue, difficult fights, etc. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!

Personally, I don't understand the new 3rd revision rules. The feats are kinda interesting. As for game play- there is alot of hack and slash. More than I actually care for. IMHO -- Baldur's Gate 2 w/ Expansion is the greatest game of all time. It's no Baldur's Gate 2, but it's not bad. If you are looking for a game to scratch your baldur's gate itch, get it, it'll help. But when you get done you are going to be like me waiting for the next game like Baldur's Gate 2....with that right combination of puzzles, great and long game play, and hack/slash. BG2 was just perfect. It hasn't gotten any better than BG2. IWD2 isn't really close...,but it's not bad...it's better than anything else out there.
Personaly, I'd play BG2 Again, but I've beat it so many times it's like....snoooze... I WISH they would come out with a game like BG1-BG2:Bhall where you start out at level 1 and finish at lvl 43. Now that would be the s**t! (and worthy of some cash). |
