I am looking forward to kill Lord Cet for the 3rd time in a few days. Actually i am creating my chars and planning their careers.

I thought of totally left out all blessing and enchant - skills and in spite of that skilling abilities for in-fight or combat in general.

Can someone tell me how effective these blessings and enchants are and what are the best spells/skills ? Later on, these things cost lots of money, donīt they ?

Are the different realms of blessing/enchanting for different items (armory, weapon) ?

Hi Taski!!

There is a pretty good description/explanation of Blessing and Enchanting on page 5 of the Best Tips - it was written by Painbringer but I'm the one who posted it into the Best Tips. Enchanting and blessing can get very expensive the further into the game you go and the more you modify some weapon and armor.

It probably would be easier to put together a list of which skills and spells are not worth having than to list which are best. What I might consider best could be different from another player with a different playing style. If you prefer long distance spells and I prefer close combat - we're going to have very different lists.

The only weapon skills that I considered useful were sword, knife and stave - W&W really didn't make it worth while to use the other weapons. Spells such as Blood to Gold are totally worthless.
Page 5 in the Best Tips also has suggestions as to which skills to increase first which you may find useful.

I'm sure I haven't even begun to answer your questions but hopefully this will get the ball rolling!

(grin) Yep, I like close combat too!!

We probably have some threads on favorite spells which might be helpful. I remember that I rather liked Incinerate. I tend to find a few nice spells and stick with them rather than trying everything.

Illuminate must be the spell I used more than any other! lol!

I read this article by Painbringer - and got another question :

The ARTIFACT SPELLS are nearly useless, because they only improve the items as it is written in his article ?

Maybe someone can tell me whats the best way to improve my WEAPONS with +hit or +damage, maybe armory with nice stats.
I dont like things like "Flamestrike" coming out of my sword - metal is for chopping heads off and not for hobby-warlocks.

So, i need

1) good improvement to weapons (hit/damage)
2) good improvement to armory (more ac, resis)

Maybe someone can help!

Those enchant artifact spells are almost useless... except for the onese that increase resistance... just use the appropriate spell on armor to increase resistance... only the fiend and/or stone artifact spells are useful for armor and weapons cuz they can increase damage and AC... I forget if it's just fiend or just stone for that effect... someone should be able to clear it up... I think there was an old thread that did... will have to find the link later on... anyways... yea that should cover it...

From my experience, here's how I like to create the mega-killer party:

1. Bless weapons with damage modifiers only. Skip the flamestrike and other elemental enchantments... they don't vary with your skills, and you can probably cast a stronger one than you could put in a sword... and do it for free, too I don't like adding the to-hit modifiers because frankly, by the middle of the game, you really don't need 'em any more.

2. Bless armor with increased AC modifiers. Max these out, 'cause all protection is good. Focus on the big ones, though, 'cause each modifier is +10% (or something like that -- Radek?). So 10% on a 4.0 Plate is far more valuable than 10% on a .30 gauntlet.

3. Enchant (not bless) all non-AC-adding things (rings, bracelets, amulets) and all minor AC-adding things (gauntlets, coifs, helms, booth) for protection from fire, ice, and magic. Each item can take +4 of each protection, and it's entirely reasonable to be at more than 100% protection from fire, ice, and magic. Imagine casting a firestorm face-to-face with an enemy... and not having to worry about whether you'll be dead or not...

4. I add regeneration to armor sometimes, but I haven't seen where it really benefits. So I'd tend to skip it, for the most part

I will close by adding two things:

1. I didn't realize until last night how effective Whirling Dervish is against a handful of opponents (bats, worgurs, etc.) that are just "annoyances". It sticks around and keeps on beatin' on 'em until they're dead... Don't know what happens if I get caught in it or not, and I don't plan to find out

2. The game is such that you can play it pretty much any old way that you want, and you can still complete it. That's one of its beauties... so you can play however you want, and it won't be wrong. It will just be... different... (says the veteran of a solo warrior, solo zenmaster, den of thieves, and probably a couple of other games).

Do let us know how you make out with it! I know I'm curious...

I'll add this:

Make sure you save all those Bronze Cuffs and Silver Rings you find everywhere in the early part of the game. You'll notice the former is +1 AC and the latter does nothing.

This is good: Silver Rings are thus one of the very few items that can be Blessed/Enchanted +14 (with Enlightenment) that keep the full effect of their enchantments.

Ardibren's Relic, which is already nice, can also take a lot of enchantments before it gets maxed; hang onto them through your games (i.e. don't let the shopkeeper take them).

The Wizards Blade can be Blessed +14, making it the deadliest weapon in the game. The Lance of the Lady (found every now & then in Cet's Pyramid) can also take a lot, but only Valkyries can use it -- and it's shockingly ugly

Note that the amount of money required for 14 Blessings is astronomical, and almost certainly requires cheating.

1. The AC increment of armor depends on the piece of armor. All "main pieces" (robes, leather, chain, plate) have +0.4 per blessing. Other pieces like gauntlets, boots, helms, and so on have lower increments.

2. Enchanting for regeneration is a good idea. With regen +3, you will heal much faster so that you won't need to heal yourself after every battle. Your guys will regenerate soon.

3. If you enchant rings and bronze cuffs for AC then you get +1 AC per blessing. That means that every ring can be AC 14 and every bronze cuff can be AC 15.
